On the Trinity
On the Trinity
One of the questions that I often get from parishioners at our church is; Where do you see or anticipate to the church in ten or twenty years? Considering the most significant problems of the church, the historical and theological contradictions; What do I think will be the most important topic under discussion?
I always tray to answer that question by saying that I am not a prophet, but if Im going to take a guest I would say; that the great issue that we will face over the next decade will be related with the deity of jesus and consequently of our doctrine of the trinity. I say this for several reason, both actual claims and historical claims. In church history, we see that the deity of Jesus was questioned with disadvantage a least four times. We see these discussion taking place in the the 5th century, the 19th century and the 20th century. All of those issues against the deity of Jesus did not end by the 20th century, but those matters were carrie over to our present days. Now we see that in many churches, God have been generalized by some preachers to intentionally not to offend those that don’t believe in Jesus as the Son of God ., So we have multicultural churches, multiethnic churches, which I applaud, but in now days we are seen multi-religions churches where God is attributed to any other religions god, for instance, the preacher can be referring to Buddha, Ala, and so on.
In history, the response of the Church fathers was always in defense of the trinity of God. They affirmed: "There is only one God manifested in three persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit." The past-modern church should be prepared to defend the deity of Christ and with it the classical doctrine of triunity.
Throughout this message, I will try to explain this theme and to respond to the questions under consideration.
