To be of use
Biblically Disciple and Serve are Synonyms
“Listen, Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.
Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength.
These words that I am giving you today are to be in your heart.
Repeat them to your children. Talk about them when you sit in your house and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.
Bind them as a sign on your hand and let them be a symbol on your forehead.
Write them on the doorposts of your house and on your city gates.
The Greatest Command
· To love God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength.
Our Response to God’s Command
Have in on our Hearts as our Daily focus.
o Psalm 119:11, 15
I have treasured your word in my heart so that I may not sin against you.
I will meditate on your precepts and think about your ways.
Our Response to God’s Command
Repeat it to our kids
o Proverbs 22:6
Start a youth out on his way; even when he grows old he will not depart from it.
·
Our Response to God’s Command
Talk about it when we sit, walk, lie down, get up
o Colossians 3:16-17
Let the word of Christ dwell richly among you, in all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another through psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts.
And whatever you do, in word or in deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
Our Response to God’s Command
Bind it on our hand and write in on our head.
A symbolic location of who we belong to
o Revelation 7:3, 13:16-17,
“Don’t harm the earth or the sea or the trees until we seal the servants of our God on their foreheads.”
And it makes everyone—small and great, rich and poor, free and slave—to receive a mark on his right hand or on his forehead,
so that no one can buy or sell unless he has the mark: the beast’s name or the number of its name.

And it makes everyone—small and great, rich and poor, free and slave—to receive a mark on his right hand or on his forehead,

o John 13:34-35
“I give you a new command: Love one another. Just as I have loved you, you are also to love one another.
By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”
Our Response to God’s Command:
Write it on the city gates
Matthew 28:19-20
Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
The Great Commission
· Command 1
GO-To the world
Poreumai-travel, depart, to live
§ Romans 12:1-2
Therefore, brothers and sisters, in view of the mercies of God, I urge you to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God; this is your true worship.
Do not be conformed to this age, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may discern what is the good, pleasing, and perfect will of God.
§ John 17:14-16
I have given them your word. The world hated them because they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world.
I am not praying that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one.
They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world.
· Command 2
o Disciple-to share your life
Matheteuo-to make a disciple
§ 1st Thessalonians 2:8
We cared so much for you that we were pleased to share with you not only the gospel of God but also our own lives, because you had become dear to us.
To Disciple
Transforming work of the Holy Spirt based on Christ
Word of God applied to our lives.
§ Acts 1:8, 2nd Timothy 3:16-17
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come on you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
All Scripture is inspired by God and is profitable for teaching, for rebuking, for correcting, for training in righteousness,
so that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.
Road Blocks to Serving
Types of Fear that keep us on the sidelines. (insert some lines for writing)
Steps to Serve
Throw off hindrances
Throw off Sin
Fix our eyes on Jesus
o Hebrews 12:1-2
Therefore, since we also have such a large cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us lay aside every hindrance and the sin that so easily ensnares us. Let us run with endurance the race that lies before us,
keeping our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of our faith. For the joy that lay before him, he endured the cross, despising the shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
