INTRODUCTION:

1. During this time of trouble we need to draw closer together as a family.
A. We need to come together as a family through Covid-19.
1. This means forgetting about wearing mask or not wearing mask and just doing what is best for our families.
A. Doing what is best both for our physical and spiritual families in this matter.
B. We need to come together as a family through the rioting.
C. We need to come together as a family through persecution.
D. We need to come together as a family when the world is divided.
1. Politically
2. Religiously
2. We need to remember that a house divided cannot stand.
Matthew 12:25 NKJV
25 But Jesus knew their thoughts, and said to them: “Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation, and every city or house divided against itself will not stand.
3. Today we are going to consider the song “God’s Family” and ask—is this how we truly feel?
BODY:
1. We’re part of the family that’s been born again.
A. We are spiritually born into God’s family.
John 3:5 NKJV
5 Jesus answered, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.
1. When we are born into God’s family He becomes our spiritual Father.
Hebrews 12:5–9 NKJV
5 And you have forgotten the exhortation which speaks to you as to sons: “My son, do not despise the chastening of the Lord, Nor be discouraged when you are rebuked by Him; 6 For whom the Lord loves He chastens, And scourges every son whom He receives.” 7 If you endure chastening, God deals with you as with sons; for what son is there whom a father does not chasten? 8 But if you are without chastening, of which all have become partakers, then you are illegitimate and not sons. 9 Furthermore, we have had human fathers who corrected us, and we paid them respect. Shall we not much more readily be in subjection to the Father of spirits and live?
2. We become His children.
1 John 3:1–2 NKJV
1 Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God! Therefore the world does not know us, because it did not know Him. 2 Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.
2. Part of the family whose love knows no end.
1 Corinthians 13:8 NKJV
8 Love never fails. But whether there are prophecies, they will fail; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away.
A. How much we love one another is show by our actions.
1. The church of the first century took care of one another.
Acts 2:42–45 NKJV
42 And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers. 43 Then fear came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were done through the apostles. 44 Now all who believed were together, and had all things in common, 45 and sold their possessions and goods, and divided them among all, as anyone had need.
2. The church of the first century took care of other congregations.
1 Corinthians 16:1–3 NKJV
1 Now concerning the collection for the saints, as I have given orders to the churches of Galatia, so you must do also: 2 On the first day of the week let each one of you lay something aside, storing up as he may prosper, that there be no collections when I come. 3 And when I come, whomever you approve by your letters I will send to bear your gift to Jerusalem.
3. The church at Philippi took care of Paul.
Philippians 4:15 NKJV
15 Now you Philippians know also that in the beginning of the gospel, when I departed from Macedonia, no church shared with me concerning giving and receiving but you only.
A. This support builds a family bond between Paul and the church at Philippi.
Philippians 1:3–7 NKJV
3 I thank my God upon every remembrance of you, 4 always in every prayer of mine making request for you all with joy, 5 for your fellowship in the gospel from the first day until now, 6 being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ; 7 just as it is right for me to think this of you all, because I have you in my heart, inasmuch as both in my chains and in the defense and confirmation of the gospel, you all are partakers with me of grace.
4. The church should take care of widows who are really widows.
1 Timothy 5:16 NKJV
16 If any believing man or woman has widows, let them relieve them, and do not let the church be burdened, that it may relieve those who are really widows.
3. For Jesus has saved us, and made us His own.
A. This should be the reason that we treat one another as family.
Ephesians 2:11–13 NKJV
11 Therefore remember that you, once Gentiles in the flesh—who are called Uncircumcision by what is called the Circumcision made in the flesh by hands—12 that at that time you were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world. 13 But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ.
1. It is because of what Jesus did that we have the opportunity to be the God’s family.
Romans 5:8–11 NKJV
8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. 9 Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him. 10 For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life. 11 And not only that, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received the reconciliation.
CONCLUSION:
1. Now we’re part of the family that’s on its way home.
A. Are we acting like it?
