I. Jesus calls you to you: “Follow Me” (John 1:43).
I. Jesus calls you to you: “Follow Me” (John 1:43).
A. Jesus purposed to go to Galilee.
— the phrase “would go forth” implies a purposeful desire.
B. Jesus purposed to go there so He could find Philip and call him to follow Him.
C. Jesus, just like purposing to call Philip, is calling you as well. His call for you is the same: “Follow Me”
II. Jesus calls you to lead others to Him (John 1:44-47).
II. Jesus calls you to lead others to Him (John 1:44-47).
A. Philip immediately left to tell his brother Nathanael about Jesus (John 1:45a).
B. Philip was already looking for Jesus when Jesus came to call him (John 1:45b).
— Philip claims to have found the Messiah. This implies he was looking for Him. The Bible promises that those who seek God will find Him. If you haven’t found God, it’s because you’re not looking (Deuteronomy 4:29; Jeremiah 29:13).
C. Nathanael doubted, but Philip encouraged him to come and see Jesus.
D. Who are you encouraging to come to Jesus and persisting them to come to Him even when they have questions and might doubt?
— Invite your friends to church, give them the gospel, and be the light of Jesus to them!
III. Jesus is worthy to be followed (John 1:48-51).
III. Jesus is worthy to be followed (John 1:48-51).
A. He knows you and pays attention to your life.
B. Your response should be that of Nathaniel’s response—one of submission to Jesus as God.
— He is worthy to be followed because He is the God of the Universe.
C. Jesus will lead you to see amazing things as you follow Him, which will further increase your faith in Him.
D. The question is: are you going to follow Jesus with your whole life, or are you going to waste your life on this world?
E. How do we know how to follow Jesus? We follow Him through His Word. God’s Word says that His Word is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path. It is our choice to follow that or not. Following Jesus is doing what His Word commands.
