Psalm 2—in making the case for the superiority of Christ the writer of Hebrews quotes Psalm 2

• The rebellion against God’s king, 2:1-3 (4 lines of Hebrew poetry)

o Why do the heathen rage?

o The people imagine a vain thing

o The kings of the earth set themselves

o The rulers take counsel together

• The response to the rebellion, vv. 4-6

o God’s response--He laughs

o Between advents—God is longsuffering

• The reign of the son—vv. 7-9

o God’s decree gave Christ the right to reign

o God’s decrees flow exclusively from His mind

o God’s decree was proclaimed in eternity

o God’s decree includes all the details of the universe

• The command of the Holy Spirit, vv. 10-12
