Paul caused a riot in Ephesus
Paul was likely banned from Ephesus, or thought it unwise to return
Paul’s work for God often lead him to such situations

Paul: Spirit Bound
Paul: Spirit Bound
Paul is “bound by the Spirit” (νῦν ἰδοὺ δεδεμένος ἐγὼ τῷ πνεύματι)
Paul did not let trials stop him from doing the work of the Gospel, he took up his cross
Served with humility and tears, enduring trials (πειρασμῶν : temptations)
v. 22-23 emphatic
v. 24: What is valuable?
v. 26-27: Responsibility to proclaim the gospel (not only in speech but also in action!)
v. 28 Transfering responsibility
v. 29-30 Weeds among the wheat, you will know they are Christians by their love (action, tell a tree by its fruit)
v. 31 Three years did not cease “warning” (νουθετῶν : admonish, instruct/correct); Spiritual growth can be very gradual, takes long-term commitment
v. 33-35, Inheritance contrasted with “silver or gold or clothing”
More blessed to give than receive, the greatest among us is the servant (to give in both service but also possessions!)
Christian Perfection
Christian Perfection
Paul lived a model life, and v. 28 shows we are expected to follow in his footsteps
Live a life “bound by the spirit”
We should be captivated by the Gospel, and by God’s love
“Here I stand, I can do no other.” Spirit bound, Captivated by God, become the person for whom love, humility, and service to God are first nature
