Intro
Last week
How can we know God?
God is knowable
Scripture, the person of Jesus, Creation
BUT, we can’t fully understand God
Because we are not God
Sin has changed the way we see the world
This week
What is God like?
What is God’s personality and his characteristics
We aren’t going to look at all of them, because there are a lot of words we could use to describe who God is
Why is this important?
It helps us to distinguish between what is God’s work and what isn’t
If you say “God told me to cheat on my homework,” we would be able to know that wasn’t actually a command from God because we know that God isn’t like that
God does not do things that are outside of his character
Sometimes we misunderstand who God is, and so we misunderstand what is happening in the world around us
It helps us grow in our knowledge of God and have a better understanding of who he is
Body
So, what is God like? (4 attributes that describe God)
Omnipotent
God has the power and authority to do all that he wants
He acts in harmony with his nature
God has the power to destroy the earth if he wanted to
God has the power to wipe out all evil from the face of the earth
Omnipresence
God is everywhere present and is not limited to any location of physical space
God is not just in a church building, or in a certain country, he is everywhere
Omniscience
God has a perfect knowledge of all things
Immutable
God is free from change and is the same at all times
Conclusion
Again, the hope is for us to get a better picture of who God is
So that we know better how we works
So that we know better how to follow him
