Living in God’s Grace
10-18-2020
Recap
So 2wks ago we started this what has evolved into a series with ACT
We called you to repent from your sin
To agree with the Holy Spirit about the sin in your life
To Confess your sin, to verbalize your sin
To Turn from your sin, the physical act of changing from doing your sin
Understand this is not a one time thing
It was not a hey I repented so I must be good
But rather it is a life change, to continue to turn from sin in your life and run to Jesus each and everyday
Then last week we exchanged our relaxed armor for the true armor of God
We had a great God moment when we repented
Last week we stressed that this is not the time or place to putting it into auto pilot
It is our time to be armoring up and seeking the Lord
Now I understand that after the first few weeks
It seems like a daunting task
I mean we have called you to repent
To agree about the sin confess your sin, and then to change the way you are doing things
Scripture about turning from SIN
That seems like a difficult and tough task
Almost impossible
Then as if that weren't tough enough we called you last week to put on the full Armor of God
Ephesians 6:10–11 NASB95
10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil.
See for the last few weeks we have called you to do somethings
This morning rather than giving you a challenge you can accomplish all yourself
This morning we are going to challenge you to do something only you can do through Christ
Live in the Grace of God
Sounds simple doesn’t it?
But if it is so simple then why do we struggle so much doing that
I think Repenting, and putting on the full Armor of God are very dependent on what you and I can but to live in the Grace of God is wholly dependent what God is doing for you and I
So this morning let me challenge you live in Gods grace
Please understand this morning that you and I are not saved by what you and I can do
Ephesians 2:8–9 NASB95
8 For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; 9 not as a result of works, so that no one may boast.
You and I are saved by grace through faith in Jesus
Grace in the unmerited favor of God
Meaning you and I do not deserve what God did on the cross for you and I
the good thing that God did for you and I was to send His son Jesus to die on the cross
When Jesus died on the cross
He paid your debt of sin and my debt of sin
That is a gift to you and I and the way we receive that gift is through faith in Jesus to believe and trust in Jesus
Church you and I are not saved by our own works
We are not saved by our own action toward sin
We are not saved by our own action of putting on the armor of God
We are saved solely on the work of Christ on the cross
then understand there is nothing that you and I can do to earn that gift
It is completely and 100% of what Jesus did nothing of what you and I have done
This morning is all about celebrating and understanding of what Jesus did on the cross for you and I and to know that there is nothing you or I can do to earn it
On the subject of grace
Romans 6:1–2 NASB95
1 What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin so that grace may increase? 2 May it never be! How shall we who died to sin still live in it?
This is not a license to live how you and I want
Since it is all about God’s grace
You and I are not to take advantage of Gods grace to you and I but rather
What Jesus did on the cross and that gift of salvation that we must accept to be saved
When that happens the Holy Spirit dwells within us
God in Spirit then dwells within us and that should be the driving force to repent
that should be the driving force to put on the Armor of God
We repent because the Holy Spirit has revealed sin to us and as children of God we should want to be as far away from as possible so we turn from sin and run back to Jesus
Not out of some selfish desire
We put on the armor of God because God calls us to and as children of God we should want to do what our heavenly Father calls us to do
This is what it is to live in the grace of God
To understand that you and I will never be perfect and can never attain salvation on our own
Salvation is not works plus Grace
It is 100% grace
Stop training to earn God’s grace and simply enjoy
Stop worrying so much about making sure things are perfect all the time and enjoy what God is doing in there here and now
Church please here me this morning we are to enjoy the grace of God
Not take advantage of it
2 Corinthians 12:9 NASB95
9 And He has said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness.” Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me.
Paul told the church at Corinth
Gods grace is sufficient for Him
Rather than trying to work for God work with God
Instead of trying to do work FOR God and trying to please Him
Lets work WITH God
Church lets seek the Lord and when we see Him lets move to that location to where God is and work WITH Him
God has already covered your debt
Stop trying to pay Him back
God has cleared your debt and told you and I work WITH me
As we close this morning
Romans 5:8 NASB95
8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
Understand this God loves you just as much now as He did when you were a sinner destine for eternal separation from Him in a place called Hell
let that sink in for a minute
God loved you and I so much that while we were against Him that while we were actively sinning and hating God
He sent Jesus to pay for your debt of sin and my debt of sin
Gods grace is sufficient to cover you and I
so maybe you are here this morning
and you do not have a personal relationship with Jesus but you have been doing a bunch of religious stuff
Maybe you have come to church and you are trying to do everything we have talked about the last few weeks
If you have not received the free gift of what Jesus did on the cross then you are simply working in vain and it will get you no where
If that is you this morning we want to invite you to the front to receive the free gift of salvation this morning through Gods grace for you by faith in Jesus
or maybe you are here this morning and you are a busy busy busy trying to work to gain Gods favor
Or maybe you are working to attempt to repay Him the debt
Can I tell you it wont happen and that God would invite you to enjoy His grace and work WITH Him
Or maybe there is another decision you need to make this morning
The altar is open
