Opening: We must have revival! I know is seems to be a weekly repeat of addressing the same old issues. We can continue to talk about the political climate. We can continue to talk about “whats wrong the world,” “whats wrong with church.” Still with everything that we see happening we have those that continue to look back to the church of yesteryear longing for more of that “old time religion” that we fail to realize its the same God, the same Holy Ghost that is longing to move today.
Yes it may be a different style or different delivery method but it is the same Holy Ghost that is wanting to be unleashed in our church today.
This leaves us with a driving question, that I feel for Abundant Life that we must begin to answer not only today, but for the rest of the year. What kind of church do we want?
Do we simply want the same old thing that we have always had, or do we want a church not only full of programs, things to do, and sense of whats always been or do we want a church that is full of the presence and power of Holy Ghost!
I mean we hear terms like revival, restoration, renewal but do we truly understands what happens, when we get out of the way and the allow the Holy Ghost to move as He wants to again!
Revival brings the free flowing of the Holy Ghost back into our church. Where God is God, and people are healed refreshed and restored. When God is allowed to be God is brings the influence of the Holy Spirit upon the church.
(Stay there if you sense it)
The Holy Spirit reveals our personal shortcomings. He brings hidden sins to the surface. (Annanias and Sapphira---Acts 5)
The Holy Spirit breaks bondages and brings freedom.
2 Corinthians 3:17 NKJV
Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.
In times of revival the Spirit of God is Lord!
2 Corinthians 3:6 NKJV
who also made us sufficient as ministers of the new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.
When bondages are broken by the power of Holy Spirit, preaching, teaching, singing and service are more effective because the spirit of God is flowing.
3. The Holy Spirit stirs our contented state (lethargy).
We are too contented with ourselves and with things as they are.
We need a “holy dissastifaction” with things as they are.
Griping and complaining often comes from a carnal spirit.
4. The Holy Sprit allows us to do what we do. Anointed ministry and Service.
We can often do quite well without the anointing.
The Holy Sprit empowers us to do things that we never imagined.
We see what God can do.
5. The Holy Sprit arouses within us a keen awareness for the “Lost.”
When Zion travails, sons and daughters are born into the kingdom (Isaiah 66:8)
In Acts 10, Cornelius called for his family and friends to come together to hear the good news, after the Holy Ghost began to work in his life.
The woman at well, “Come and hear about a man!”
6. The Holy Spirit can awaken us to our first love----Jesus.
7. The Holy Spirit sets creates an atmosphere where it easy for people to be saved and receive Spirit Baptism.
Acts 10, House of Cornelius.
