The life of Faith

One of my favorite book series in the Wilder King Trilogy, which is story that plays on the life of David. The main character Aidan is constantly being told- “Live the life that unfolds before you- love goodness more than you fear evil.”
Aidan goes on to to do this very thing which leads him into a great journey with some great character and some great peril. But thier is some wisdom that Aidan learns as he lives out the life that the One God unfolds before for that we can heed as we try to live a life build on faith. Aidan says:
“Who knows what the future holds? Only the One God," explained Aidan. "You just live the little bit of life that you can see in front of you. You live it well. And that gets you ready for whatever unfolds next.”
“Neither arms nor armor can deliver Corenwald—only the arm of the One God.”
There is a great fight that happens in our lives as we try to live out our faith. We have our understanding that looks at what situation that might be standing before us and tries to reason outcomes.
We say “well if I do this then this will happen?” But much like Aidan and David what if we stepped out in faith and reminded we don’t know what tomorrow will bring our where we will end up, but God knows and we will trust Him.
Solomon reminds us to:
Proverbs 3:5–6 ESV
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.
Reason says that a shepherd boy isn’t the best fight to a warrior giant, but in that story David isn’t the hero, God was.
1 Samuel 17:37 ESV
And David said, “The Lord who delivered me from the paw of the lion and from the paw of the bear will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine.” And Saul said to David, “Go, and the Lord be with you!”
1 Samuel 17:45–47 ESV
Then David said to the Philistine, “You come to me with a sword and with a spear and with a javelin, but I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. This day the Lord will deliver you into my hand, and I will strike you down and cut off your head. And I will give the dead bodies of the host of the Philistines this day to the birds of the air and to the wild beasts of the earth, that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel, and that all this assembly may know that the Lord saves not with sword and spear. For the battle is the Lord’s, and he will give you into our hand.”
What faith David exemplified for all to see. “This Day the Lord will deliver...” Or as Aidan says, “neither arms nor armor can can deliver… only the arm of the one God.”

What is Faith?

Hebrews 11 is know as the the faith chapter, and within it are example of what it looks like to live a life of faith as it unfolds before you.
Hebrews 11:1 ESV
Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.
Faith is assurance. As David stood in front of the battle tested giant, he showed great assurance not in a sword, or armor, nor in the army that stood in fear behind him, but in God.
