Overview of Hebrews 1
CHRIST IS BETTER THAN THE ANGELS
Hebrews 1:4-14
In Hebrews 1:4-14, the writer presents the argument that "Christ is made so much better than the angels. . .". He proceeds to show four ways the Son is better than the angels, and appeals to the Scriptures (Old Testament) for support.
A. The Son is better than the angels because of His unique relationship with the Father.
1. The quotation is from Psalm 2:7. In this same connection, see the following passages:
a. Acts 13:33 "God hath fulfilled the same unto us their children, in that he hath raised up Jesus again; as it is also written in the second psalm, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee."
b. John 5:18 "Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only had broken the sabbath, but said also that God was his Father, making himself equal with God."
c. John 10:30 "I and my Father are one."
d. Romans 1:4 "And declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead:"
2. Whereas we may have expected Psalm 2:7 to have reference to the birth of Christ, the NT consistently refers to the resurrection as the "declaration" of the Sonship of Jesus, the Christ!
