Introduction
Citizenship has to do with a commonwealth, a state, a country or some political entity with its own governing laws.

Officially recognized status in a political state bringing certain rights and responsibilities as defined by the state.

Becoming a Citizen Roman citizenship could be gained in several ways: birth to Roman parents, including birth to a Roman woman without regards to identity of the father; retirement from the army; being freed from slavery by a Roman master; buying freedom from slavery; being given citizenship by a Roman general or emperor as an individual or as part of a political unit; purchase of citizenship. Paul was born a citizen, but how his family gained citizenship we do not know.

We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

I. Imitate apostle Paul - The apostle Paul (v. 17a)
Philippians 2:5–8 ESV
5 Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, 6 who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, 7 but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. 8 And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.
II. Keep your eyes on your examples
A. Example #1 - Timothy (Phil 2:19-23)
1. No one like him genuinely concerned for your welfare
2. Seeks the interests of Christ
3. Serves with the Apostle Paul as a son in the gospel
B. Example #2 - Ephaphroditus (Phil 2:25-29)
1. brother, fellow worker, fellow soldier
2. Philippian messenger and minister to the apostle’s need
3. distressed because they heard he was ill, near to death
4. honor such men for he nearly died for the work of Christ by risking his own life to serve the apostle Paul
III. Don’t imitate the Judaizers (vs. 18-19)
1. enemies of the cross
2. their end is destruction
3. their god is their belly
4. they boast in their shame
5. their minds are set on earthly things
IV. The believer’s true citizenship
A. Our citizenship is in Heaven
B. We await our Savior from Heaven

Of Jesus as the Messiah, the Savior of men, who saves His people from the guilt and power of sin and from eternal death, from punishment and misery as the consequence of sin, and gives them eternal life and blessedness in His kingdom

C. Our Transformation is from the Lord Jesus Christ
D. His Power enables Him to subject all things to Himself
