Conquering in Our Relationships

Intro

Tonight if there is to be ANY victory, there must be complete and total HONESTY and willingness to allow Jesus Lordship of your life.

Prov 4:23 (NKJV) Keep your heart with all diligence,

For out of it [spring] the issues of life.

Prov 4:23 (NIV) Above all else, guard your heart,

for it is the wellspring of life.

Proverbs 4:23 (TLB) “Above all else, guard your affections. For they influence everything else in your life.”

Background account:

Exodus 3:1-5…Moses meets God on holy ground at the “burning bush.”

Exodus 3:7-15… God tells Moses that he is “HIS MAN” to lead the children of Israel out of slavery in

Egypt…But “MO” says, “Who am I???”

Exodus 4…God gives Moses all sorts of signs that He’s with him… BUT no matter how much God tells

“MO” that He’s with him…Moses begs for another human being.

Exodus 4:13 Moses told God “he wasn’t enough.” So he begged for Aaron.

Exposing our Idols

We’re people of “Golden Calves”…of idolatry…because our heart always demands

a God we can touch and feel.

Exodus 4:14 “and the anger of the Lord burned against Moses…”

***Skit***

Later on, Aaron became the very one who betrayed Moses by making the golden calf for the people of Israel.

Anything or anyone that masters your affections, you need to call it out and nail it to the cross.

Ezekiel 14:2-7 “And the Word of the Lord came to me saying, ‘These men have set their IDOLS IN THEIR HEARTS… Should I even listen to them at all? I am attempting to capture their hearts, but they are distant from me because of their idols.’”

In order for you to come to a place a revolution in your life you have to “turn the corner” in your relationship with the Lord.  There are many people in the world who live at the point of:  “Lord I have believed in you.  I consider you worthy of praying to and singing to, I know you have loved me, and I have great affection for you.  But I have never signed on the dotted line. I have never made your story, into my story.  I have never embraced you whole heartedly.”

If your commitment is sure then it is time to take it to the practical level and live it out.

The “Aaron’s” in our lives…The people and things we make too important …

often eventually turn on us and become some of our deepest sources of pain.

2Cor 6:14 (NIV) Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness?

15 …What does a believer have in common with an unbeliever?

16 What agreement is there between the temple of God and idols? For we are the temple of the living God…

Yoke?

Guard your affections…life flows

Should you lock yourself in the Church and become a monk or nun? Is that what God is saying? NO.

If you decide to disobey God and date non-Christians you will be destined for a very painful experience.  Eventually you will find yourself in a position of having to choose.

Either have to say no to someone you now love or you will have to reject the Lord and embrace your sin.

“God why can’t I have both?!”

Matt 6:24 (NIV) "No one can serve two masters. He will hate the one and love the other, he will be devoted to the one and despise the other.

God will not give up on His children.  If someone is a true Christian and the Spirit of God resides within, the Holy Spirit will war against the sin in you and you will be miserable…which will lead to you making a choice.  You cannot serve two masters.  The Yoke will lead you either away or towards Christ.

Make a covenant commitment right now that you will not date non-Christians.  Write it on the inside of your Bible.  Share it with someone else.
