15 We ourselves are Jews by birth and not Gentile sinners; 16 yet we know that a person is not justified by works of the law but through faith in Jesus Christ, so we also have believed in Christ Jesus, in order to be justified by faith in Christ and not by works of the law, because by works of the law no one will be justified.

8 but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. 9 Since, therefore, we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God.
Justified - To be or become judicially vindicated (cleared) as having complied with the requirements of the law
Problem - You are a sinner, in rebellion to a Holy God
Solution - Wrath of God poured out because of this rebellion
Result - Death
No hope to satisfy God’s wrath
Christ pays the penalty and clears the debt, satisfying His wrath
5 But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed.
Now you can stand justified before God (ledger cleared) by Christ

9 For God has not destined us for wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,

Christ is the one who justifies us
We have faith in His finished work, that is what justifies us
We can’t be justified by our own works
13 For it is not the hearers of the law who are righteous before God, but the doers of the law who will be justified.
Just because you know the law doesn’t mean you have right standing
It is when you obey the law that you have right standing
NO ONE can do this
20 For by works of the law no human being will be justified in his sight, since through the law comes knowledge of sin. 21 But now the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from the law, although the Law and the Prophets bear witness to it— 22 the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. For there is no distinction: 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
