What is Truth?

Defining truth isn’t easy

Philosophers, logicians, thinkers have been trying to define truth for thousands of years

Different theories come and go, different ideas phase in and out of culture

Something is true only if it can be proven to be true

It is 50 degrees outside can be proven by a thermometer

What about something like “God is real” how can that be proven?

Or what if something is a fake? Does that make it true?

Truth is relative from person to person

“Whats true for you is true for you, whats true for me is true for me”

Something is true only if

Truth is something you can feel

“I just know it” or “My gut is telling me”

Its honestly easier to define what truth is NOT

Lies, deception, etc.

Things we know aren’t true based on facts, what we have experienced

So what does the bible tell us about truth?

Not a whole lot

Jesus says a few things

John 18:37-38

John 14:6

John 8:31-32

We learn that truth is valuable

Proverbs 23:23

1 Timothy 2:3-4

Truth is from God and it is something worth pursuing
