Then Moses went up to God, and the Lord called to him from the mountain and said, “This is what you are to say to the house of Jacob and what you are to tell the people of Israel: ‘You yourselves have seen what I did to Egypt, and how I carried you on eagles’ wings and brought you to myself. Now if you obey me fully and keep my covenant, then out of all nations you will be my treasured possession. Although the whole earth is mine, you will be for me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.’ These are the words you are to speak to the Israelites.”
What happened right after this?
God gave Moses the 10 Commandments.
What does God remind the people about?
His faithfulness
His provision
His guidance
What does He tell them they will be out of all the nations?
His treasured possession.
He then reminds them of His ownership of the world, then makes a declaration we need to hone in on:
you will be for me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.’ These are the words you are to speak to the Israelites.”
There are other places in God’s word that give us this command.
And you will be called priests of the Lord,
you will be named ministers of our God.
You will feed on the wealth of nations,
and in their riches you will boast.
One of may favorites is in the New Testament:
you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.
But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.
and has made us to be a kingdom and priests to serve his God and Father—to him be glory and power for ever and ever! Amen.
You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to serve our God,
and they will reign on the earth.”
All God’s people share a common vocation.
We are priests. Therefore:
We witness
We teach
we worship
we intercede
we are not self-centered but GOD-centered and others centered.
Our task is to witness and pray until all people know and serve God.
How can we serve as priests?
Take what you do and do well, and turn it into a ministry.
I heard today about a man that rode his bike all over town, He claimed to have well over 200,000 miles on the same bike. He had that bike since he was a little boy and now in his 80’s he was still riding that bike because he knew how to fix and keep it maintenanced. He had a few other bikes that he took to his church after he had fixed them up and asked if there was a need for bikes. The Leadership discovered there was a need at the local homeless shelter and there were folks that could use the bikes to ride to jobs so they began expanding and fulfilling those needs. What this man did well became his ministry.
