Context

So really quickly,

Paul is telling them that they are misusing the law

they’re viewing it as a to do list to help make them right before God

but when they do that, they ignore that it comes after the promise to Abraham of an offspring that will bless the nations

that what the law does is give glimpses, shadows of who that offspring is, what he will do

and our need for him

the offspring, of course is Jesus, so what they are doing is taking something that is about Jesus and what he will do

and making it about themselves

this is what we do whenever we put salvation on ourselves

and it’s slavery, slavery to a list of things we feel we have to do

or God won’t love us

Paul is telling us that we are free from that, we are loved, our salvation is secure because Jesus has done everything for us

our salvation is based only on his faithfulness, his love, his grace

not on anything we bring to the table

That’s good news, let’s praise God together that the offspring has come, that Jesus does everything

let’s turn to him, and rest in him
