Jesus is God

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being. In Him was life, and the life was the Light of men. The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it. John 1:1-5
The Apostle John writes that the Word was in the beginning. Understand that the Greek word her is Logos and it is capitalized. This is talking about Jesus. Jesus was at the beginning of time. Jesus is eternal. There has never been a time that He did not exist and there will never be a time where He ceases to exist.
John explains that everything that came into being came through Jesus and nothing that has or ever will be created will come into being apart from Jesus. He is the creator.
26 Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; and let them rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over the cattle and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” 27 God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. Gen. 1:26-27
We see reflected in the writings of Moses the plurality of God. He says let US make man in OUR image. This is a hard passage to understand because it says “God said” and then he uses the words us and our. This demonstrates the triune God head. This is the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. They are not 1/3 God, 1/3 God, and 1/3 God. They are all 100% God in their being. They are perfect in their will, relationship, and purpose! There is no difference they are all the same.
And He is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature, and [e]upholds all things by the word of His power. Hebrews 1:3
30 I and the Father are one.” John 10:30
Jesus *said to him, “Have I been so long with you, and yet you have not come to know Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; how can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? John 14:9
15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. 16 For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things have been created through Him and for Him. 17 He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together. 18 He is also head of the body, the church; and He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, so that He Himself will come to have first place in everything. 19 For it was the Father’s good pleasure for all the [ab]fullness to dwell in Him, 20 and through Him to reconcile all things to Himself, having made peace through the blood of His cross; through Him, I say, whether things on earth or things in heaven. Col. 1:15-20
Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, Phil. 2:5-6
What was from the beginning, what we have heard, what we have seen with our eyes, what we have looked at and touched with our hands, concerning the Word of Life— and the life was manifested, and we have seen and testify and proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and was manifested to us— what we have seen and heard we proclaim to you also, so that you too may have fellowship with us; and indeed our fellowship is with the Father, and with His Son Jesus Christ. These things we write, so that our joy may be made complete. 1 John 1:1-4
As you can see there is plenty of scriptural references to Jesus being God. The amazing thing about Jesus being God is that He also became a man.
14 And the Word became flesh, and [k]dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth. John 1:14
Jesus stepped out of heaven an became a man. This is significant because in doing so he limited himself the boundaries of humanity while keeping his sovereignty and divinity. So the obvious question is why did He do this? The answer is why Jesus being God is important

Jesus Became A Man

14 Therefore, since the children share in flesh and blood, He Himself likewise also partook of the same, that through death He might render powerless him who had the power of death, that is, the devil, 15 and might free those who through fear of death were subject to slavery all their lives. 16 For assuredly He does not [n]give help to angels, but He gives help to the descendant of Abraham. 17 Therefore, He had to be made like His brethren in all things, so that He might become a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people. 18 For since He Himself was tempted in that which He has suffered, He is able to come to the aid of those who are tempted. Heb 2:14-18
I see 4 reasons why Jesus becoming a man is important to us. They are to defeat Satan, give help to God’s children, atone for our sins, and identify with our struggles.

Defeat Satan

When Satan introduced sin into the world with Adam and Eve he established power over God’s creation through death. Everyone that is a descendant of Adam and Eve has a sin nature that ends in death. Everyone is guilty of sin and therefore everyone must die. Jesus came to take the power back from Satan by coming and giving eternal life to those who believe in Him.
18 So then as through one transgression [m]there resulted condemnation to all men, even so through one act of righteousness [n]there resulted justification of life to all men. 19 For as through the one man’s disobedience the many were made sinners, even so through the obedience of the One the many will be made righteous. 20 [o]The Law came in so that the transgression would increase; but where sin increased, grace abounded all the more, 21 so that, as sin reigned in death, even so grace would reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Rom 5:18-21
Jesus ushered in life when death reigned. I remember before I was a follower of Jesus Christ I feared death because I knew that I was a sinner that had no hope for eternal life. I knew that I wasn’t saved and knew that if I died I would go to hell. This scared me. It was this fear that caused me to seek a Savior. I praise God that He revealed Himself to me by forgiving my sin, saving my soul and giving me abundant life!

Jesus Gives Help To God’s Children

Jesus knows the struggles of life. He lived a life of struggle. He lived in poverty. He knew what it was like to be without. He also knew the struggle of heartache through broken relationships. He knew the struggle of the sick and diseased. He knew the struggles of the world and came to help those who believe in Him.
Jesus perfectly identifies with any struggle you have and can help. The Word of God says that He came to help the descendants of Abraham.
Even so Abraham believed God, and it was reckoned to him as righteousness. Therefore, be sure that it is those who are of faith who are sons of Abraham. The Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel beforehand to Abraham, saying, “All the nations will be blessed in you.” So then those who are of faith are blessed with Abraham, the believer. Gal. 3:6-9
People of faith are the ones that are true descendants of Abraham. It is those who Jesus helps.
33 These things I have spoken to you, so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world.” John 16:33
We can have confidence that in any struggle we have Jesus can help us overcome!

Jesus Atones For Our Sins

Because we are all sinners our relationship with the Father is broken. We deserve eternal punishment for our sin. The problem is there is nothing that we can do to fix the problem. There is no amount of good work that can atone for all our sin. We will always be in a deficit on our own.
This is why Jesus came. He is the only one that can satisfy the sin debt that we have with the Father. He came to earth and lived a perfect life without sin. He went to cross of Calvary and died to satisfy our sin debt with the Father. It is only what Christ has done that brings salvation. The word propitiation means to appease God. This is what Jesus did for us by taking the punishment for our sin.
He satisfied the wrath of God towards us for our sin.

Jesus Helps Us Overcome Temptation

One common thing about all people is that we struggle with temptation. Temptation is anything that leads us to sin. Our temptations are not all the same, but we all have some form of temptation in our lives. Jesus is the one who helps us to overcome our temptations.
13 No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man; and God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be able to endure it. 1 Cor. 10:13
Jesus is always the way of escape. We can call on Him to enable us to overcome temptation when we face it. The question is do we call on Him or try to overcome it ourselves? So what qualifies Jesus to help us overcome our temptations.
15 For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin. Heb. 4:15
Jesus faced every temptation that we will ever face and did it without sinning. This qualifies Him to help us with our temptations.

We Should Believe And Confess Jesus As Lord

that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; 10 for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation. 11 For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes in Him will not be [d]disappointed.” 12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, abounding in riches for all who call on Him; 13 for “Whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
The Bible says we are to confess and believe. We are to confess with our mouths Jesus as Lord

Confess Jesus As Lord

Confession of Jesus as Lord is more than merely saying the words from your mouth. It is also making Him Lord of your life. This simply means denying yourself, taking up your cross daily, and following Him! Repent, sacrifice, and follow!

Believe That God Raised Him From The Dead

If you believe God Raised Him from the dead, then you believe that His sacrifice for you is enough. Jesus died for your sins, but he rose to give you eternal life!
