ATTRIBUTES VS. ACCOMPLISHMENTS

TONIGHT’S MESSAGE: Into the Deep
at the core of who you are lies your identity.
we are going to look at the attributes that make up your core.
Question of Identity:
who are you WITHOUT using your name, job, friends/social group, accomplishments?

To Know God

1 Samuel 3:1, shows us that Samuel was ministering (worship or serve) to God.
1 Samuel 3:7, shows us that Samuel didn’t know the Lord, and the Lord’s Word hadn’t been revealed to him yet.
Simply working in or attending church is not enough!
Matthew 7:22–23 ESV
22 On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ 23 And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’
It’s not about what you’ve done, it is about who you are

Character Check

What’s the difference?
Character = Who You Are
Character is who you are when no one is around.
actions/accomplishments are a result of your character
THOUGHTS BECOME DESTINY
Thoughts > Words
Words > Actions
Actions > Habits
Habits > Character
Character > Destiny
Obedience was a key for Samuel
Samuel’s core value of obedience caused him to instantly respond by running to Samuel (where he thought the call came from).
Samuel’s obedience allowed him to hear the voice of God in his life.
Your core values will cause you to be positioned to hear from God.

KEEP WHAT’S VALUABLE

Matthew 13:44 ESV
44 “The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and covered up. Then in his joy he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.
when this man found a treasure that was more valuable that his possessions, he sold everything else, bought the field so he could have something of more worth!
