Soanes, Catherine, and Angus Stevenson, eds. Concise Oxford English dictionary 2004 : n. pag. Print.
- As God’s “goodness and mercy” have always followed him hitherto, David has no doubt that they will continue to cling to him while his life continues.

- GOOD (valuable) n. — that which is pleasing or valuable or useful; sometimes used collectively.
Whether it is favorable or unfavorable, we will obey the Lord our God, to whom we are sending you, so that it will go well with us, for we will obey the Lord our God.” (Jeremiah 42:6)
“whether prosperity or adversity”
“happiness given by Yahweh, prosperity, the best things, cheerfulness, well-being...”
Psalm 34:8, “Oh taste and see that the Lord is good...”
- MERCY - STEADFAST LOVE
loyal love n. — an unfailing kind of love, kindness, or goodness; often used of God’s love that is related to faithfulness to his covenant.
The Hebrew word chesed can sometimes refer to kindness or mercy. It can also refer to faithfulness or loyalty. Most often it is translated as “steadfast love.”
Chesed is often used as a characteristic of God. God’s chesed is an essential part of His character. When He appears to Moses, God describes Himself as abounding in chesed and keeping chesed for thousands (Exod 34:6–7). His chesed is associated with His covenant love for Israel. In the Ten Commandments, God describes Himself as showing chesed to those who love and obey Him (Exod 20:6; Deut 5:10).

II. LATER (6b)

- God as host in the life to come (v. 6b)
The provisions of God in this life are a small foretaste of what awaits believers. The table of which David has spoken is set in the midst of enemies in the wilderness. A glorious day is coming when all God’s people will be gathered around God’s table in his everlasting house, and there no enemy will be present to offer a single snarl.
- So the greatest expression of the goodness and mercy of God awaits us in heaven. The people of God will then be with the Lord who cared for them every step of the way. And they will never be separated from him.
