What Makes You Happy?
What Makes You Happy?
Happy originally was to be lucky or have good fortune. Hence the phrase “Happy Go Lucky”
Later it even was to be silly and as we now have it to be joyous and glee because of circumstances or emotional state.
Events can bring on this joyous feeling and on the opposite end they can have negative feeling and emotions.
Frank Sinatra had a song entitled “That’s Life” It first lyrics were ....That’s Life, that’s what all the people say, you’re riding high in April , shot down in May. But I know I’m gonna change that tune, when I’m back on top in June.
His happiness was inconsistent and unpredictable.
However there is a happiness that is from God and is permanent and constant regardless of the current carnal situations. When we get to that state the Word of God calls us Blessed.
I ask you today what makes you happy?

Reaching a life goal
This things bring temporary good feelings but are not shielded from changing events.
That’s why the saying is enjoy it while it lasts.
However if I can receive a blessing from God that is resistant to life changes and the wiles of Satan. Then I can have that joyous state every day.
Even when I’m sadden I can reflect on that goodness from God and I will instantly become that happy soul in Christ.
The word blessed is found over 300 times in the Bible and we are going to look at one of God’s blessings He gives man in Psalm 32.
This is a Psalm of David and it speaks of the joy and happiness that is given to the forgiven of God.
Psa 32:1 A Psalm of David, Maschil. Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered.
Psa 32:2 Blessed is the man unto whom the LORD imputeth not iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no guile.
The effects of sin were permanent …death and separation from God.
The effects likewise of God’s forgiveness through Jesus Christ are permanent with an eternal abode with Him in Heaven. Therefore I am #happy always.
You may have been Mr or Ms happy go luck......but before you recieved Jesus in your life and were covered with His blood to cleanse you from sin …you were in a sad state of being.
See you can be in a sad case and not be aware of it.
You know you have looked into someone’s life and said to your self or to your cousin that’s standing with you....”that’s so sad” “they are pitiful and don’t know it”
But when it comes to the sin state every man needs to know his status by the preaching of the Gospel.
David is Aware That He Needs Forgiveness
David is Aware That He Needs Forgiveness
In our text, David is aware not only of his sin status but also of his need for forgiveness and restoration from God.
David in Psalm 51 asks for his forgiveness from God:
Psa 51:1 Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions.
Psa 51:2 Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.
David acknowledges that he is in an unhappy state because of his sin.
You were not sadden until your sins were exposed to the light.........
You were the happy sinner.....
David had sinned with Bathsheba and had her husband Uriah killed. He had went a year thinking he had hidden his sin from the public but not form the eyes of God.
As long as people thought he was clean, David felt good about himself....
But when God sent the prophet Nathan to him to expose his sin .He suddenly became sadden and bruised.
You see David was now given a chance for freedom. Because even though he had hidden as he believed his wrong from the people his conscious was tormented day and night because of his guilty state.......
Psa 32:3 When I kept silence, my bones waxed old through my roaring all the day long.
Psa 32:4 For day and night thy hand was heavy upon me: my moisture is turned into the drought of summer.
Psa 32:4 For day and night thy hand was heavy upon me: my moisture is turned into the drought of summer. Selah.
Psa 32:5 I acknowledged my sin unto thee, and mine iniquity have I not hid. I said, I will confess my transgressions unto the LORD; and thou forgavest the iniquity of my sin.
Fix me so that I can be happy again:
Psa 51:7 Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.
Psa 51:8 Make me to hear joy and gladness; that the bones which thou hast broken may rejoice.
Psa 51:12 Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit.
If you’ve been forgiven and redeemed ....Be Glad in the Lord....Be Glad......
Psa 32:11 Be glad in the LORD, and rejoice, ye righteous: and shout for joy, all ye that are upright in heart.

Psa 98:3 He hath remembered his mercy and his truth toward the house of Israel: all the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God.
