Most people Know stories IN The Bible, but don’t know the story OF The Bible

When you don’t know the story OF The Bible, it’s easy to discount the stories IN The Bible

How you READ The Bible Determines HOW you RESPOND to what it says…

REMEMBER THE BIGGER STORY AND WHO’S WRITING IT…

16 All Scripture is inspired by God

While this is true…

WHEN WE DON’T UNDERSTAND WHAT THE BIBLE IS SAYING RIGHTLY, WE WILL APPLY WHAT IT’S SAYING WRONGLY :/

ALL OF THE BIBLE IS WRITTEN FOR YOU… NOT ALL OF THE BIBLE WAS WRITTEN DIRECTLY TO YOU…

That means, to understand the meaning of what’s being written, we need to EXAMINE & EXPLORE to understand better

EXPLORE TO EXPAND UNDERSTANDING

THIS IS CALLED CONTEXT…
EXAMPLE: ELLI “THE NEIGHBOR IS COMING TO HURT ME” …
QUESTIONS TO ASK FOR GAINING COTEXT:
Who is speaking? Why are they saying what they’re saying?
Who are they speaking to?
What type of literature is this?
What circumstances and events are surrounding this part of the story?
What’s unique to this ancient cultural context?
What’s true and consistent with the whole story of The Bible?

3:1 You should know this, Timothy, that in the last days there will be very difficult times.

2 For people will love only themselves and their money. They will be boastful and proud, scoffing at God, disobedient to their parents, and ungrateful. They will consider nothing sacred.

3 They will be unloving and unforgiving; they will slander others and have no self-control. They will be cruel and hate what is good.

4 They will betray their friends, be reckless, be puffed up with pride, and love pleasure rather than God.

5 They will act religious, but they will reject the power that could make them godly. Stay away from people like that!

4:1 I solemnly urge you in the presence of God and Christ Jesus, who will someday judge the living and the dead when he comes to set up his Kingdom:

2 Preach the word of God. Be prepared, whether the time is favorable or not. Patiently correct, rebuke, and encourage your people with good teaching.

3 For a time is coming when people will no longer listen to sound and wholesome teaching. They will follow their own desires and will look for teachers who will tell them whatever their itching ears want to hear.

4 They will reject the truth and chase after myths.

5 But you should keep a clear mind in every situation. Don’t be afraid of suffering for the Lord. Work at telling others the Good News, and fully carry out the ministry God has given you.

Paul is writing Specifically to Timothy
TImothy is leading the church in Ephasus
The Church in Ephasus was probably the most diverse and divided of all early churches

A few thousand years later does any of this still sound familiar?

Now we can start to identify and apply what God’s saying to our lives by the power and the help of The Holy Spirit we’re able to discover God’s purpose in this scripture for our lives…

“AAA” ASK, ALIGN, APPLY
