Psalm 5:3

“My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O Lord, in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee and will look up” (Psalm 5:3).
INTRO: The Psalmist, who happens to be David here, speaks of seeking the Lord in this text. Our text gives us some good exhortations about seeking the Lord which are applicable to all.
1. FIRST LET LOOK AT THE EARLINESS IN SEEKING
“My voice shalt thou hear in the morning.” This is a great way to start every day. It says that David would start the day with God.
Many folk start the day with the newspaper and a cup of coffee. How much better if you started the day with God and His Word instead.
A. How we start something has much to do with how we finish something.
NOTE: Someone has said that which is “well begun is half done.”
B. A good way to have a ruined day is to leave out God. We need to practice Gods Word here by seeking God early in the morning.
When we start off the day with God It will help us to meet the many trying circumstances of the day and help us do even better in the good circumstances of the day.
2. THE EARNESTNESS IN SEEKING
“In the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee.” This speaks of earnestness in seeking the Lord.
If we are earnest in seeking God, we will begin the day seeking God.
A. We won’t put off praying until late in the day, but will start praying earnestly early in the day. We must be earnest in spiritual matters if we are going to profit in spiritual matters.
B. Few people are as earnest as the psalmist was in our text.
NOTICE: Twice he mentioned the morning in regards to seeking God. This shows the psalmist gave a high priority to the Lord. God came first!
If we are not careful and do not have a priority on seeking the Lord, these things will take over our life and ruin it.
NOTE: Nothing is so important as the spiritual part of our life
(Mark 8:36). For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?
3. THE EYEING IN THE SEEKING
“And will look up.” Too often we are looking down and around rather than up.
A. Where the eyes are looking has much to do with the direction of our life.
If you are constantly looking at TV and like things you will not do well spiritually.
Keep your eyes upward upon the Lord if you want consistent victory in your life.
