You are being watched

1 Peter 2:11–12 NKJV
11 Beloved, I beg you as sojourners and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts which war against the soul, 12 having your conduct honorable among the Gentiles, that when they speak against you as evildoers, they may, by your good works which they observe, glorify God in the day of visitation.
You are being watched. (Cameras everywhere)
Intro: ~ Alexander MacLaren 1900 Century Scottish pastor.
"The world takes its notions of God from the people who say that they belong to God's family. They read us a great deal more than they read the Bible. They see us; they only hear about Jesus Christ."
Peter is writing to the persecuted Christians. He refers to is as fiery trials.
1 Peter 4:12 NKJV
12 Beloved, do not think it strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened to you;
1. They were under this great persecution, but how would they respond to the ones that were persecuting them?
a. What was were daily lives like?
b. How to they live?
c. Peter telling them to live a blameless life.
Philippians 2:15 NKJV
15 that you may become blameless and harmless, children of God without fault in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world,
Blameless: None us are going to live a perfect life, but have to live a life were people do not find fault is us. (They person says they are a Christian, but they cuss, they have a bad attitude, they are mean, they drink, etc......
d. It is the grace of God that saves us. It is the grace of God is how we live out our lives in a blameless way.
e. Peter is telling them to live a life that is a Godly life. He started by telling them about the principles of a Christian life. Now it turns to the practice of the Christian life.
Belief/Behavior.
f. We need to know Gods word, we need to live Gods word. We are to live a Godly life.
VS 11 “Beloved”: Loved by Peter, Loved by God.
“I beg you” KJV Beseech you .
g. While it is Peter writing, it is the great God of the universe saying to His blood-bought children, “I beg of you, please”
h. Many times He commands, here He is begging us. He is begging born again blood bought Christians. To live a Godly life. To do us, you have to be right with God.
i. When you get right with God (salvation) you will have a desire to live a Godly life.
2. Peter is begging or pealing. What is the plea?
“To abstain from fleshy lust”
Abstain: To hold ones self off from doing something. Lets look at something Paul tell us to abstain (hold off from)
1 Thessalonians 5:22 NKJV
22 Abstain from every form of evil.
a. As a Christian you are to take any and all fleshly lust and hold them away from you. Push them away.
b. Then more you try to live a Godly life, the more Satan is going to hold them is front of you. You have to resit.
Wards cookies. Elab.
c. By the way, fleshly lust is more then sexual sins. Fleshly lust are all the desires of human nature.
d. When you are born, you are born with sinful nature. The bible calls it the “old man”
Ephesians 4:22 NKJV
22 that you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts,
Colossians 3:9 NKJV
9 Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old man with his deeds,
Romans 6:6 NKJV
6 knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin.
f. The sin nature is always there, but when you are born again, you have a new nature. The two battle each other.
Galatians 5:17 NKJV
17 For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish.
g. Sin is easy for a person who is not a Christian. (Sinful nature is all the have)
h. But a born again person has a new nature, so they should want to live a Godly life. Trying to walk in the spirit.
j. The old nature and the new nature battle against each other. Peter knew all about this. Elab his denial.
