Text: Eph. 4:1-6

Thesis: To examine what is required to be people of unity.

Introduction:

(1)    “The first three chapters deal with doctrine, our riches in Christ, while the last three chapters explain duty, our responsibilities in Christ” (Wiersbe 6:34).

(2)    Paul first stresses the need for Christian unity.

(3)    Let us note what is essential to have true unity:

Discussion:

I.                   Required Attitudes:

A.    Humility

B.     Gentleness

C.     Longsuffering

D.    Forbearance

E.     Endurance

F.      Peace

II.                Required Foundation:

A.    One body

B.     One Spirit

C.     One hope

D.    One Lord

E.     One faith

F.      One baptism

G.    One God

Conclusion:

(1)   As we have noted, unity requires both proper attitudes and a proper foundation.

(2)   As the Lord’s church, let us learn to stand together so that we may reach out to the world for the cause of Christ.
