Intro

Welcome to Forerunner Xtreme, every 3rd Wed. we are planning on doing something a little special, a little out of the ordinary.  It may be a skit, it may be an illustrated sermon with video or drama, it may just be a fun night with competitions.  Tonight Harrison Ford wants to share the Good News of Jesus Christ with you.  Of course I will help him and elaborate on some of his points, and of course we are not trying to find the mythical Holy Grail, but simply the truth, the kind of truth that changes lives forever.  The truth that brings hope and deliverance, that brings meaning.   The truth that men and women have been willing to live and die for, for generations…

I.  What do you believe?

**Scene-Nazi dude shoots Dad… “Time to ask yourself what you believe…”

Tonight is a night that is intended to make you examine just what exactly do you believe.  Now there will be a lot of Hollywood doctrine in the clips that I will clear up, but Be willing to lay aside everything that has sounded like truth, but is in fact a lie!

*Do you think the way to Heaven is being a good person?  It’s a Lie!

*Do you think the way to Heaven is attending church?  That’s a lie

*Do you think that you have plenty of time to “find God”  It’s a lie!

Tonight Indiana Jones is going to show you exactly how to get to Heaven, exactly how to have a living relationship with Christ.  That is the truth!

II.  Only the Penitent Man Shall Pass

**Scene-Blades cut off head, must be humble

*Only the penitent man shall pass.  There is a gulf, a huge chasm separating us from God.  God is holy, He is righteous, and our sin separates us from Him.  For us to try and reach Him would be like us stretching our arms and trying to touch Mars…completely ridiculous and impossible.

In this life we are separated from God by our sin, Jer. 59:2 says that “…your sins have cut you off from God…” and in death we will be separated from God by our sin forever in eternal punishment.

But the Good News is that Jesus Christ has made a way that we can not only escape punishment for our sin, but we can have a living passionate relationship with God through the forgiveness of our sins…but to take advantage of the way that has been made we must repent of our sins in humility. 

It is the act of coming to the Lord in humility, and confessing and repenting of our sins.  Repenting is to turn away from sin, to make a choice to leave sinful patterns in our life through the power of God working in us.

*The idea of going to Heaven because you are a good person, is nonsense just like touching Mars.

*In case you think that you are not that bad compared to some people, understand that as Romans 3:23 tells us, that we are all sinners, we have all fallen short of God’s righteous standard.  The smallest sin in your life, ever, will separate you from God eternally.   Everyone stands in need of a Savior, and the way that Jesus made for us.

*Only the person who repents of his sins before the Holy Almighty Awesome God shall be saved

III.  Only by The Name of God

*Scene – Indy steps in the Jehovah letters.

OT names Jehovah, Yahweh, Adonai, El Shaddai…all simply mean Lord, Master, Lord Almighty.  It was in the NT that the Name of God was revealed…the name that the Bible says is above every other name.

*John 14:6 (NKJV) “Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.’”

*there is only one way,  there are not many ways to God, only one!  And that way is to walk in the footprints of Jesus.  Following Him, and living by His name.

The Name of Jesus…it is where our authority as Christians lie.  It is what we pray in, and claim the promises found in God’s Word.  It is the Name at which every demon in Hell shivers at and hates to hear.  It is the name at which every knee in the heavens and on earth will bow in worship. 

And if you are living separated from God by sin, it is the Name in which all of your hope lies.  Only the penitent man will pass, and it is only by calling on the Name of the Lord Jesus that you will be saved.

Romans 10:13 (NKJV) “For "whoever calls on the Name of the Lord shall be saved.”

IV.  The Leap of Faith

**Scene – Indy has to make the step of faith

As we said in the beginning…It’s time to ask yourself what you believe

Hebrews 11:1 (NIV) “Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.”

You may be able to accept that we are sinners in need of a savior,  you may be able to accept that Jesus is the only way, but it is not until you put your money where your mouth is that anything happens

*It’s do or die

*Step out and God will catch you

*It’s time to put up or shut up

You see there are a lot of people out there walking around calling themselves Christians who are not.  They may believe in God, but they are not saved…the devil believes in God…

It’s not until you take your whole life and make the leap, knowing it will cost you everything, knowing that you cannot attach a safety line or put up a net. 

It’s time we get back to seeing a bunch of radically saved Christians running around messing up the devils plans, instead of sitting around holding hands singing “kum by ya”  Calling all radicals!

!!! V.  You Have Chosen Wisely

**Scene – Indy goes in, bad guy follows, chooses wrong and gets blown to dust, Indy chooses wisely (long segment)

Can choose what looks right, or what IS right…

Proverbs 14:12 (NKJV) “There is a way that seems right to a man, But its end is the way of death.”

You will hear lots of opinions in your life and even form your own, but whatever doesn’t line up with God’s Word, which is eternal, will end up leading to death and judgment.  The death you saw pictured is nothing compared to what was waiting on the other side of death for the bad guy.  Eternal torment, never ending suffering.

Indy chose based on knowledge of God’s Word, knowing that Jesus was raised as a carpenter’s son.  Every time you are faced with a decision it should be based upon the Word of God…especially when it comes to life and death, Heaven and Hell.

So what is your choice tonight…It’s time to ask yourself what you believe in…
