Faith that Endures
Part
Five
God's Application
•
•
•
What does God want me to do? RUN!
•
•
With endurance/patience/steadfastness (cf. 2, 3)
•
•
Lay aside weights (e.g., 2 Tim 4:10)
A race to glory (cf. Rom 5:2; Heb 2:10)
Commanded precursors to running with endurance:
Lay aside besetting sin (e.g., Heb 10:32ff)
All who endured stand as witnesses.
God's Witnesses
1. They are both men and women.
2. There have always been people of persevering faith.
3. They have always been a remnant.
4. They were all. people of great personal failure.
5. These are the people God cares to record and talk about.
6. Genuine faith still possessed them in the end.
God's Leader
•
•
How can you run with endurance? LOOK!
•
•
•
"Look away unto"
•
•
•
He looked with faith.
He is the Leader (the exemplar).
He is the Completer.
What should we consider about Jesus?
He endured the cross (v3).
He minimized the shame.
For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us
an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison…
2 Corinthians 4:17
For I consider that the sufferings of this present time
are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be
revealed to us.
Romans 8:18
A Final Word
1. God is worthy of your eternal trust.
2. God expresses his credibility through the absolute
trustworthiness of His Word.
3. Look to Jesus every day.
For we do not have a high priest who is unable to
sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in
every respect has been tempted as we are, yet
without sin. Let us then with confidence draw near
to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy
and find grace to help in time of need.
Hebrews 4:15–16
