What does it mean to be “PURE”?

OT cultic purity. Cleansing methods.

Jesus Redefined Purity

Note: all the ways that Jesus “defiled” Himself.

According to the judgment of Jesus the ritual or cultic purity sought by the Jews is quite inadequate, since it is concerned only with externalities, Mt. 23:25 f.; Lk. 11:41.

Jesus speaks of obedience, Paul of sanctification, and neither of purity of life.

Purity as past event and present pursuit

Purity is a consequence of salvation
Purity is the desire of those saved
**Compare the “flesh/spirit” paradigm of Paul

Spiritual Eyes are Opened to SEE God

as we trust and pursue purity in Christ

- “having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints,” (Ephesians 1:18, ESV)
