Date: October 25, 2020 Message: “BIBLICAL PERSPECTIVE ON THE IMMINENT ELECTION” Text: Selected Verses Speaker: Steve Balvanz
Introduction:
This is not a political message. It is a biblical principle message. I want to offer biblical perspective on the upcoming election so that we each might think and behave in a manner that honors God and His word and motivates us to do what God would have us to do, and to trust Him fully as we soon discover what He has ordained for our country post-election.
I. God elects presidents.
Psa. 2:1-6; 47:8; 103:19; Rom. 13:1; Dan. 2:21; 4:7; Isa. 40:21-24
God’s will, not man’s will, is ultimately determinative in everything that happens on this planet!
God is not fretting over this election, and neither should His children. No matter who lives in the White House, God is still on the throne of the universe!
II. We are responsible to use our influence and vote for righteousness.
1 Tim. 2:1-4; 2 Chron. 7:14; Prov. 6:17; 14:34; Rom. 1:16; 1:26-32; 13:3-4; Gen. 12:1-3; Acts 4:19; 5:28-29; Heb. 10:24-25; Matt. 5:13-16; Acts 1:8; 1 Pet. 2:9
Divine sovereignty does not negate human responsibility. Fatalism is a sinful response to the truth of God’s sovereignty.
What must we do as Christian citizens of our beloved country?
• Pray faithfully
• Vote wisely
I am not voting for a person, I am voting for the principles that I believe most closely align to the principles of God’s word on matters of extreme importance for our nation, our families, and our church.
Examples of Key Biblical Issues:
1. Supporting the sanctity of human life
2. Supporting the biblical design of marriage and gender
3. Supporting law and order
4. Supporting the nation of Israel
5.Supporting religious liberty
• Appeal graciously
• Disobey biblically
• Fellowship consistently
“I love my country and care about who wins and loses. Elections have consequences. Yet I’m much more interested in the church—my church and the Church. Our fidelity to biblical truth, our personal holiness, our sincerity, our consistency, our ability to speak with grace and truth, our unwillingness to confuse the kingdom of this world with the kingdom of Christ, our realism in the midst of Utopian promises, our hope in the midst of fear and loathing, our winsome witness to the gospel—to embody these realities week after week is more important than what happens on the first Tuesday in November.” (Kevin DeYoung)
• Live godly
• Witness boldly
Our personal and corporate mission will not change regardless of the outcome on November 3.
III. We’re on our way to a much better country.
Heb. 11:13-16; Phil. 3:20
Very soon, all of us who love the Lord will be moving to a much, much better country, and Jesus reigns there as King forever!
