Sermon Text:
Hebrews 6:4-10
“God has not forgotten”
Introduction:
My brothers and sisters sometimes in this Christian Journey we will become consumed by services and duties in church that we soon lose out on the joy and the benefits of serving God.
We sing in the choir, we attend Sunday school, we attend weekly services and if we are not careful we look at our services as a duty instead of serving out of our heart and our reverence for God.
My brothers and sisters of the truth be told, sometimes we get tired. If the truth be told, sometimes we want to give up and throw in the towel.
I come to encourage the young people as well who are doing what’s right in school. Who are obeying their parents. Who are studying who are constantly faced with the pressures of trying to fit in. Who are constantly facing the difficulties on a day to day basis. Don’t stop doing all you can for God, don’t stop doing what’s right because sooner or later you are going to see the results of doing what’s right.
I believe some of us if not all of us have been to that place. That place were it seems as though you have given all you could. That place were it seemed as though you were spiritually burned out. That place were you have already sowed and waiting for your reaping. That place were you have already we weeped in the night and your waiting for your morning joy.
My brothers and sisters if that’s you I come to encourage you to not give up, because as David said in Psalms 30:5 weeping may endure for a night but Joy is coming in the morning.
I come to encourage those today that as Hebrews 6:10 says God has not forgotten your Labor.
Background text
The book of Hebrews is often Attributed to Paul as the Author Writing a letter to the Jewish Christians
Who were in danger of going back to to their old ways and denying Jesus as their Messiah.
Paul both encouraged and warned them:
Main Idea of the text:
Anatomy of the text
Hebrews the 6th chapter begins at the 4th verse speaks about those Jews in biblical days who tasted the word of God those who experienced the power of God however still fell away from the faith and refused to accept Jesus and rebuked him by outing him to open shame because the refuse to accept the new covenant which is Jesus Christ.
The writer speaks about those who had once been faithful who had the knowledge and insight of Christ and somehow fell away.
No matter what our title is no matter what capacity we serve in the enemy does not care his main focus is to discourage us and have not complete the work that God has assigned to our life.
My brothers and sisters we must be able and willing to sustain amour relationship with Christ. We must not become weary in well doing as the Bible says I’m due season we shall reap if we faint not.
I come to encourage you that as Philippians 1:6 states “he that started a good work in you shall complete until the day of Jesus Christ”.
Sermon Points
Hebrews 6 7-8 speaks of When you have sewed good seed and labored in the field God will be pleased with your harvest
A. Compares your work to a garden
Jesus used the parable of four ‘soils’ to explain different responses people have to the gospel (Mk. 4:1–20 and parallels). Hebrews only refers to two possibilities. The good soil that drinks in the rain often falling on it and that produces a crop useful to those for whom it is farmed receives the blessing of God.
This refers to those who persist in hearing and obeying the word of God. By God’s grace they are spiritually fruitful.
The bad soil that produces thorns and thistles is worthless and is in danger of being cursed. It never responds to cultivation and in the end it will be burned.
This describes the fate of those who harden their hearts in unbelief and turn away from God.
The writer provides no middle ground for the sluggish and the slack. He wants his readers to be sure that they all fit into the first category!
This lets me know if I’m hearing the word and that word sinks in me and the word turns into works sooner or later a harvest will be produced.
My brothers and sisters everything that you have poured out. God is getting ready to our back into you.
You planted seeds you’ve read your Bible that’s seed. You have been praying that’s seed for your soil. You been coming to church that seed.
Now you can look for your garden to flourish and God will be pleased.
In contrast those who have not planted anything can’t expect anything to grow but rather it become thrones.
We are not saved by works however God grant us favor by our works
He encouraged them that he was persuaded that there were Better things for you as mentioned in Hebrews 6:9
My brothers and sisters don’t let your current problems prevent you from getting Gods promises.
As it relates to our culture there were those who mad sacrifices who didn’t necessarily know that the outcome of those sacrifices all they knew was or would lead to something better.
Rosa Parks refuse to give sit in the back of the bus because she was looking for better.
Harriet Tubman, lead slaves to freedom because she was looking for better.
Martin Luther King in August 23rd, 1963 gave the I have a dream speech because he was looking for better.
Just as God had something better for us as a culture Hod has something better for you individually.
For I reckon that the differing of this present time can’t be compto the Glory that shall be revealed
What you are dealing with now is preparing you for better.
The pain is preparing you for better.
The suffering is preparing you for better.
The tears are preparing you for better.
Look at somebody and say better is on the way.
2 Corinthians 12:8-9 And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. 10 Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ’s sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
Better In your finances
Better In your family
Better In your ministry
Better In your church
Finally in Hebrews 6:10 He encourages them that God is not unrighteousness that he would forget your work.
A. God has not forgotten
My brothers and sisters God does not have amnesia. He remembered your labor
Don’t stop doing what you doing because you Labor was not and is not in vain
1 Corinthians 15:58 Paul confirms this when he said
58 Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.
I came to encourage you that people may forget the things you do.
But God has not forgotten. You’re getting ready to reap what you have sown.
Every teared you cry you’re going to reap in joy.
I come to encourage you that weeping may endure for a night but Hoy comes in the morning.
God saw everything you have sown in this ministry and he has not forgotten.
God saw every sacrifice you have made he has not forgotten.
He saw your vision and your heart when you started. He has not forgotten.
If you can hang on in there just a little while longer he is getting ready to give you what’s due.
When you have deposited something you can get something out(withdrawals)
Conclusion:
I come to encourage you that when you have sown good seed God will be pleased with your harvest.
I come to encourage you that better is coming for your
I come to encourage you that God has not forgotten about you.
I read my bible and saw a couple of people that God had not forgotten
I woman who was sick for twelve years.. Sure after 12 years she would have thought God had forgeten about her.
But she heard that Jesus was in town and she touched the hem of his garment and she was made whole.
There was a man who was lame for 38 years. Sure after 38 years of being at the pool he would have thought that God had forgotten
However, when he met Jesus he told him to pick up his mat and walk..
There was two sisters by the name of mary and martha who brothers Lazarus was sick…and after Lazarus died Im sure Mary and Marth thought God had forgotten.
But Jesus came and said show the grave and spoke Lazarus and he got up out o the s.
Alter Call
