Big idea

The big idea of 1 John is our fellowship with one another and the trinity.
1 John 1:3 what we have seen and heard we proclaim to you also, so that you too may have fellowship with us; and indeed our fellowship is with the Father, and with His Son Jesus Christ.
our text builds on the theme of the book of 1 John.
John is now concerned that we continue to abide in Jesus that we may have confidence at his coming and not shrink away in shame.
Being confident before Jesus and the Father is something John wants his readers to be assured of.
The coming of Jesus return is something we all know is approaching and the scriptures talk a lot about our saviors return. This verse here clearly informs us as to how I believe we all would like to come before Jesus.

The Greek words rendered “be confident” are literally “have confidence.” The latter is parrēsia, a word that can signify a bold freedom of speech.

If we are not right before God and we come before him we will enter in shame and even more so at his coming because we will see him perfectly.
This is true of even know when we are not living right and we come to worship with our brothers and sisters does not are heart not condemn us and our conscious are convicted because the work of Christ calls us to the truth. This shame of course hinders us from worshiping freely with our brothers and we loose the confidence to not only praise God for his magnificent, but also to be assure of our standing before him in the day of Judgement.
The end of the world as we know it is either something you are looking forward to because you are looking forward to Jesus who is going to put all things right again, or its a day of dread because Jesus will be on the judgment seat and you do not know how he will judge.
How is your relationship with Jesus? When you meet him face to face are you going to be confident that his judgment of you is covered by Jesus death on the cross who took your punishment for your sin and gave you forgiveness. Continue in Jesus and be confident of his judgment of you, do not spoil a moment of your existence that should be a time of great rejoicing. Remember what he has accomplished for you and how much he loves you.
