1 Peter 1:22-2:3

Three Reasons to Thirst for God’s Word

1) The message of God’s Word endures forever.  (1:23-25)

2) You yourself have tasted the sweetness of God’s Word in your own salvation. (1:22-23)

-Your soul has been cleansed by your faith in the Gospel. (1:22)

-You have been born again, made spiritually alive and made children of God by the power of His Word. (1:23)

3) God is not finished with you. God is still changing you and making you fit for His service through His Word. (2:2)

-Creating in you a love for one another that is supernatural and beyond your own making. (1:22)

-Calling you to forsake love-hindering sins. (2:1)

1 Peter 1:22-2:3

1:22 “Since you have in obedience to the truth purified your souls for a sincere love of the brethren, fervently love one another from the heart,

23 for you have been born again not of seed which is perishable but imperishable, that is, through the living and enduring word of God.

24 For, “All flesh is like grass, And all its glory like the flower of grass. The grass withers, And the flower falls off,

25 But the word of the Lord endures forever.” And this is the word which was preached to you.

2:1 “Therefore, putting aside all malice and all deceit and hypocrisy and envy and all slander,

2 like newborn babies, long for the pure milk of the word, so that by it you may grow in respect to salvation,

3 if you have tasted the kindness of the Lord.
