THE FACT OF OUR DEATH (v. 1 - 3)

God Says We Were Dead
God has made it abundantly clear in his word that prior to our salvation we were dead. Notice verse 1 & 5. If we had been hooked up to a spiritual heart monitor we would have been a flat line.
Colossians 2:13 “And when you were dead in your transgressions and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He made you alive together with Him, having forgiven us all our transgressions,”
Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
We were sinners
verse 1 uses 2 words to describe our habitual lifestyle as sinners “trespasses”- meaning to over step a boundary and “sins” - meaning to miss the mark.
Our actions as sinners
Verses 2 - 3...
Our influence

THE FOCUS OF OUR RESURRECTION (v. 4 - 10)

Our text says while we are dead spirituality, we don’t have to stay dead - but we can be raised to life! We can experience a resurrection!
But it is important for us to notice the emphasis in our text. It is the “who” of our resurrection. Verse 4 “God”, Verse 5 “Christ”, Verse 6 “Christ Jesus”, Verse 7 “Christ Jesus”, Verse 8 “God”, Verse 10 “Christ Jesus” & “God
If we are dead today - God can raise us up!
If we have had a spiritual resurrection - We should be excited that we have life & that we have Christ!
The worship service should be a celebration service - I once was dead but now I’m alive!

THE FAITHFULNESS OF OUR SALVATION (v. 4 - 10)

Who does our salvation rely on? Verses 4 - 10 emphatically says heaven. Notice especially verse 6, “made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus”.
In other words is our salvation temporary or permanent? It is permanent because it relies on God.
Ephesians 2:19 - 22. These verses picture us as a building - a holy temple unto the Lord. It speaks of permanence. Imagine ripping on of those blocks out of the building. It would make the building unstable.
No the truth of Scripture is - If you have truly experienced salvation you are secure in Him. The focus is not your grip on him but his grip on you!

THE FRUIT OF OUR RELATIONSHIP (v. 10)

Verse 10 brings us to our main point and introduces us to the heart of our new series and what we will be talking about for the next several weeks. What does authentic Christianity look like? What are the signs that we as believers have a heartbeat? How does this world know that we are “in Christ” and that He is “in us”?
V. 10 “unto good works” “that we should walk in them”. We are not saved by good deeds but if we are saved we will do good deeds.
James 2:26 “For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.”
