Seven Sayings From the Cross
THE SEVEN SAYINGS FROM THE CROSS
I. Luke 23:34 - “Father, forgive them for they know not what they do.” (Forgiveness)
(See Acts 2 – “remission of sins”)
II. Luke 23:43 - “To day shalt thou be with Me in paradise.” (Promise)
(Who else could have been making promises in these circumstances?)
III. John 19:26,27 - “Woman, behold thy son.” (Compassion, provision)
IV. Matthew 27:46 - “My God, My God, why hast thou forsaken Me?” (Despair)
(John 17:5; 2 Corinthians 5:21)
V. John 19:28 - “I thirst.” (Suffering)
VI. John 19:30 - “It is finished”. (Victory!)
VII. Luke 23:46 - “Father, into thy hands I commend My Spirit.” (Trust, confidence)
(Contrast with “My God, My God...”)
Conclusion: The words of our Savior, which he uttered from the cross, should be able to melt even the coldest heart! How can we look to such a One and not be incited to render to Him our complete submission?
