The line of Cain

God, in His mercy spared Cain’s life.
He went on build a city.
Naming this city after his son Enoch.
Not to be confused with the Enoch (Son of Jared).
We get to Lamech
What was a “first” that he did?
2 Wives. (Deviating from God’s design of marriage).
They were still advancing and learning.
Inventions.
Musical Instruments.
Tubal-Cain, an instructor of every craftsmen in bronze and iron.
God blesses the wicked and the righteous.
God sends rain on the “just and the unjust”
We aren’t told of them seeking God.
Lamech’s song of him killing a young man.
Even thinking if Cain is avenged seven fold then he seventy-sevenfold.
Arrogance.
A trademark of wicked deceived people.
Jesus taught us to forgive seventy times seven.

The line of Seth

Eve gave birth to Seth.
She saw this as a gift from God, because of Abel being dead.
People living a lot of years.
Yet the curse is still there.
They still die.
Seth had a son named Enosh.
Around this time people began to “call on the name of the Lord” vs. 4:25.
Then we get to Enoch (son of Jared), the seventh from Adam.

The life of Enoch

Unfortunately, we don’t have a lot of info on this remarkable man!
Interestingly, he was probably a contemporary of Lamech.
What lesson can we learn here?
We can live righteously when others may not be!
Gen. 5:21-24
Enoch walked with God.
God took him.
Elsewhere in the Bible.
Hebrews 11:5  By faith Enoch was taken away so that he did not see death, “and was not found, because God had taken him”; for before he was taken he had this testimony, that he pleased God. 6 But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.
The New King James Version. (1982). (Heb 11:5–6). Nashville: Thomas Nelson.
b. 14 Now Enoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied about these men also, saying, “Behold, the Lord comes with ten thousands of His saints, 15 to execute judgment on all, to convict all who are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have committed in an ungodly way, and of all the harsh things which ungodly sinners have spoken against Him.”
The New King James Version. (1982). (Jud 14–15). Nashville: Thomas Nelson.

Lessons for us

What about us?
What does it really mean to walk with God?
This sounds so perfect.
So back to the garden.
Can this still happen?
We tend to have the idea that walking with God, will be turn here, turn there, stop, do this.
We certainly have areas of momentous decision.
But often it is a course. A direction of life.
Those decisions happen, because it is a way of life that is being fostered.
What is pleasing to God.
What is advancing what God wants to advance.
It does affect our lives like nothing else.
How we talk to people or about people.
How we treat people.
How we deal with business situations.
It’s all affected by Walking with God!
It must begin with faith!
We have been talking about faith Rom. 4 and 5.
some charge Christianity with not really affecting our lives.
This is not true of the Christian.
It does affect our lives.
A spirit led life is evident and affects every area of life.
What is pleasing to God?
What is loving our neighbor?
Walking with God, lives with Eternity’s goals and values in mind.
Weather it be suffering or prosperity.
What will last for eternity?
