Truly this is a season we will never forget. Between COVID19 and the election season. I believe I heard the word unprecedented more than i like to.
When when we see what is going we are in a state of shock. I mean from superspreader events being held by 45, record COVID numbers close 90,000 reported in one day. That is crazy! The experts say that it could easily reach 100,000 a day.
Yet we are hearing from 45 COVID COVID COVID that’s all they want to talk about.
This Psalm has helped me this week. As David is running from Saul. He conceals from Ahimelech his estrangement from Saul. This Psalm is closely associated with Psalm 34 where David changes his behavior before King Achish.
This Psalm challenges all of us to think of our behavior. The question is as this Psalm is opens Why do you boast of evil, O mighty man?
David questions the evil man boasting! This prideful state is very dangerous. You focus on your deeds and abilities and brag about it! This is the direct opposite of what we should be doing. We should be humbled and have humility. Yet this person in this Psalm describes a person out of control. Your tongue plots destruction, like a sharp razor, you worker of deceit. 3 You love evil more than good,
and lying more than speaking what is right. Selah
4 You love all words that devour, O deceitful tongue. The message Bible has a description you will find interesting. You scheme catastrophe; your tongue cuts razor-sharp, artisan in lies.
You love evil more than good, you call black white.
You love malicious gossip, you foul-mouth.
Recognize Evil
When you see and hear this type of behavior recognize it for what it is. It has nothing to do with God. It is rooted in evil. The NIV version of this text says Why do you boast all day long, you who are a disgrace in the eyes of God?
Reward Evil
But God will break you down forever;
he will snatch and tear you from your tent;
he will uproot you from the land of the living. Selah. (Ps 52:5).
Reverse Evil
We can operate in the reversal of Evil by doing good. When we see what God will do to the evil the Psalmist said the The Righteous will see and fear.
When we see God punishment for the Evil we will reverse our actions so the same does not happen to us. See the man who would not make
God his refuge, but trusted in the abundance of his riches
and sought refuge in his own destruction! (2016). (Ps 52:7).
When we really reverse evil we take on a whole new persona.
But I am like a green olive tree
in the house of God.
I trust in the steadfast love of God
forever and ever. (Ps 52:8). This reference ti=o a healthy tree is reserve for the righteous. The righteous flourish like the palm tree
and grow like a cedar in Lebanon. 13 They are planted in the house of the LORD; they flourish in the courts of our God. (2016). (Ps 92:12–13). Wheaton, IL: Crossway Bibles.
He is like a tree planted by rivers of water (streams of water)
that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither.
In all that he does, he prospers!
The Holy Bible: English Standard Version. (2016). (Ps 1:3). Wheaton, IL: Crossway Bibles.
I will thank you forever,
because you have done it.
I will wait for your name, for it is good,
in the presence of the godly. (Ps 52:9).
With a freewill offering I will sacrifice to you;
I will give thanks to your name, O LORD, for it is good.
7 For he has delivered me from every trouble,
and my eye has looked in triumph on my enemies.
The Holy Bible: English Standard Version. (2016). (Ps 54:6–7). Wheaton, IL: Crossway Bibles.
