II. The Prophetic Word
A. Made more sure (1:16–18)
B. Already mentioned as important in the first letter (
1 Pet 1:10–12
)
C. It is God’s word and not man’s (1:20)
D. The current letter as well as Paul’s writings are included (3:15–16)
II. The prophetic word is required for necessary knowledge
A. To receive everything pertaining to life and godliness (1:2–4)
B. To learn the promises that transform (1:4)
C. It is the foundation for the “Christian graces” (1:4) that will allow us to be successful in our Christian life (1:10–11)
D. They were to grow in knowledge to remain steadfast (3:19–20)
E. Peter knew how important it was to remind them of it (1:12–15; 3:1–2)
III. The prophetic word is necessary to withstand false prophets
A. False prophets teaching error (2:1–3)
B. This error is opposite from what Pet writes to them (2:10–16)
1. Their doctrine is empty (2:17–19)
2. The righteous, who follow the truth, will be delivered but false teachers will be punished (2:9)
