// RECAP

Week 1: What is Your Name?
God gives you a name
the world will give you labels, but God gives you a name
First step to receiving that name is to leave your desires and ways behind
Week 2: Into the Deep
Attributes vs. Accomplishments
It’s about your core values
Your core values will always result in the desired accomplishments
This Week’s Message: REDEEMING WORTH
Wren’s Broken Toys
– kids will inevitably break a toy from time to time
– Wren will think that because the toy breaks that we have to throw it away
– most the of the time the toy is repairable, and takes just a few minutes to repair (sometimes it just needs new batteries)
You are the toy...
Prayer

OUR RELATIONSHIP TO GOD

Galatians 4:4–7 ESV
4 But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, 5 to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons. 6 And because you are sons, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, “Abba! Father!” 7 So you are no longer a slave, but a son, and if a son, then an heir through God.
Key Verse Competition

“fullness of time has come”

Galatians 4:4 – highlight fullness of time has come
this means that God sent Jesus to Earth at the right timenot too early, not too late

“redeem”

Galatians 4:5 – highlight redeem

1805. ἐξαγοράζω ĕxagŏrazō, ex-ag-or-ad´-zo; from 1537 and 59; to buy up, i.e. ransom; fig. to rescue from loss (improve opportunity):—redeem.

Romans 6:23 ESV

– After renovations, valued at $139,000 (almost 5x more worth)
– One year later the house is selling for $950,000 (34x the purchase price)
“God can take what we think of ourselves as worthless and give us exponentially more value than we ever imagined!”
Ephesians 3:20 AMP
20 Now to Him Who, by (in consequence of) the [action of His] power that is at work within us, is able to [carry out His purpose and] do superabundantly, far over and above all that we [dare] ask or think [infinitely beyond our highest prayers, desires, thoughts, hopes, or dreams]—

“adoption”

Galatians 4:5 – highlight adoption

ADOPTION—the giving to any one the name and place and privileges of a son who is not a son by birth.

Roman Adoption

Paul is writing to the Galatians in this letter
Galatia <Roman Empire Image> would’ve been apart of the Roman Empire
<Agustus Image>
Adoption in Ancient Rome was practiced and performed by the upper classes; a large number of adoptions were performed by the Senatorial class.
Succession and family legacy were very important; therefore Romans needed ways of passing down their fortune and name when unable to produce a male heir.
Adoption was one of the few ways to guarantee succession, so it became a norm to adopt young males into the homes of high ranking families.
adoption was as much for the adopter as the adoptee

LIVING IN GRACE & MERCY

GRACE (חֶסֶד, chesed; “grace, mercy, steadfast love, compassion”; חֵן, chen; “grace, graciousness, kindness”; χάρις, charis; “grace, favor, graciousness, goodwill”)

Simplified: getting something that you did not earn

"Abba, Father!”

Galatians 4:6 – highlight Abba, Father
Galatians 4:6 ESV
6 And because you are sons, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, “Abba! Father!”
Abba = “daddy”
daddy is the closest word that we can find in our english language.

It is a term expressing warm affection and filial confidence.

lit. we have no worries, we fully trust God to take care of us

What kind of Father is God?

Matthew 7:7–11 ESV
7 “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened. 9 Or which one of you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone? 10 Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent? 11 If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!
Think of the best gift you ever received from your dadGod will give you exponentially more and wants to give you more!

INHERITANCE IS NOW & LATER

Galatians 4:7 ESV
7 So you are no longer a slave, but a son, and if a son, then an heir through God.
An heir gets the inheritance when the father dies...
God isn’t going to die, so we have our inheritance now & in Heaven.

What is our inheritance?

John 14:12–14 ESV
12 “Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father. 13 Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it.
Greater works on Earth
miracles
healing
prophecy
evangelism & salvation
deliverance
…and more!
Ask and it will be done*
*the action will be granted if it glorifies the Father
Eternal life in Heaven
