Lesson - Jesus was Baptized

As we just saw in our video, John the Baptist lived in the wilderness. He dressed funny and ate strange food. He was telling people, “Repent and be baptized, for God’s kingdom is almost here.”
Ask
Does anyone know what “repent” means?
That’s right, it means to turn away from sin. It means to go a different direction. It means turning from being disobedient to being obedient.
John was asked if he was the Messiah that they had been waiting for, but John said no. He was not the Messiah, but rather that he was a voice crying in the wilderness, “prepare the way for the Lord; make his paths straight.”
John's had an important job, he was telling people to get ready for Jesus, God’s promised messiah.
People began to repent and be baptized. They turned away from their sin and turned to God for forgiveness. When they did, John would baptize them in the Jordan river.
John also preached that someone more powerful than he would come after him. He even said that he was not even worthy to untie this person’s sandals. That is how important Jesus Is. John said, “I baptize you with water, but He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.”
By this time, Jesus was an adult. He was in Galilee and then went to the Jordan River to see John the Baptist. When John saw Jesus, he said, “Here is the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!”
Then something strange happened. Jesus asked John to baptize him. But John was confused. He said to Jesus, “I need you to baptize me. Why do you want me to baptize you?” John was confused because he baptized people who confessed their sins; Jesus never sinned!
Jesus answered, “Allow me to be baptized. God says this is right.” So John agreed and baptized Jesus.
And when Jesus came up from the water, suddenly the heavens opened and he saw the Holy Spirit coming down from heaven like a dove. And a voice came from heave and said, “This is My Son. I love him and I am very pleased with him!”
Jesus never sinned, but He obeyed God the Father and was baptized like sinners are baptized. Baptism reminds us of Jesus’ Death and Resurrection. It reminds us that when we trust in Jesus, we turn from sin and start a new life - a life that is lived for Jesus.
1 Timothy 1:15 ESV
The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the foremost.
