Bless the Lord, O my soul,
and all that is within me,
bless his holy name!
Bless the Lord, O my soul,
and forget not all his benefits,
who forgives all your iniquity,
who heals all your diseases,
who redeems your life from the pit,
who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy,
who satisfies you with good
so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.
For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit.
You, however, are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if in fact the Spirit of God dwells in you. Anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him.
For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.
For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. And those whom he predestined he also called, and those whom he called he also justified, and those whom he justified he also glorified.
He is your praise. He is your God, who has done for you these great and terrifying things that your eyes have seen.
Be not silent, O God of my praise!
Heal me, O Lord, and I shall be healed;
save me, and I shall be saved,
for you are my praise.
And one called to another and said:
“Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts;
the whole earth is full of his glory!”
saying, “If you will diligently listen to the voice of the Lord your God, and do that which is right in his eyes, and give ear to his commandments and keep all his statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you that I put on the Egyptians, for I am the Lord, your healer.”
He sent out his word and healed them,
and delivered them from their destruction.
He heals the brokenhearted
and binds up their wounds.
For you have delivered my soul from death,
yes, my feet from falling,
that I may walk before God
in the light of life.
For you bless the righteous, O Lord;
you cover him with favor as with a shield.
but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength;
they shall mount up with wings like eagles;
they shall run and not be weary;
they shall walk and not faint.
You were wearied with the length of your way,
but you did not say, “It is hopeless”;
you found new life for your strength,
and so you were not faint.
For he satisfies the longing soul,
and the hungry soul he fills with good things.
But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.
GOD OUR PRAISE - 1.11.20
VERSE 1
Bless (AMP) - affectionately, gratefully praise - from the deepest parts of who we are...
This verse isn’t just about praising God -- its about identity - its about who we are -
The NLT says: Let all that I am praise the LORD; with my whole heart, I will praise his holy name.
TPT: whole life -- innermost being…
In the everyday - that is the peripheral of who we are. Do you get that - we need to get that! This life its the peripheral of who we are -- the kingdom of God is where we live, who we are...
Romans 8:5 - live according to the spirit and set your mind on the things of the Spirit
Romans 8:9 You, however, are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if in fact the Spirit of God dwells in you
Romans 8:14 - For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God
Romans 8:29-30 - we are known (before all time) by God, predestined (chosen before we were) , called (by name, invited into relationship) , justified (declared righteous), glorified (honored, lifted, - Jesus in us!)
It means praising God -- not for any other reason except for WHO HE IS!
YAHWEH: self-existing one - who never came in to being and always will be. God’s covenant name - strength, sovereignty, goodness - the I AM THAT I AM
New Bible Commentary (NBC) -- when we bless the Lord we review His excellencies and respond to them… we recount His blessings - His goodness -- we take account of the truth that all He does stems from WHO HE IS!
Psalms 22:3 - Yet you are holy,
enthroned (inhabit, dwell, sit, stay) on the praises of Israel.
Deuteronomy 10:21 - He is your praise. He is your God, who has done for you these great and terrifying things that your eyes have seen.
Psalm 109:1 - Be not silent, O God of my praise!
Jeremiah 17:14 - Heal me, O Lord, and I shall be healed; save me, and I shall be saved, for you are my praise.
The repetition of BLESS in Psalm 103 represents the highest form of worship -- its like Isaiah 6:3 - HOLY - HOLY - HOLY
Psalm 103:2
VERSE 2:
BLESS the Lord --
Psalm 116:12
What shall I render to the Lord for all His benefits to me?
VERSE 2 cont’d - Don’t forget - not one of His benefits - His kind deeds…
NLT: The good things HE DOES for ME
TPT: You are my soul’s celebration!
BENEFITS: H1576 - (gemul) recompense, dealings, treatment - sufficiencies to act fully (NBC)
DICT: advantageous or good; gift or payment
VERSE 3 - who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases
AMP: EVERY ONE OF THEM, HEALS EACH ONE
TPT: You kissed my heart with forgiveness, in spite of all I’ve done
Forgiveness is an intimate thing -- it’s a powerful thing (Mark 2:10)
You’ve healed me inside and out from every disease.
Ex 15:26
26 saying, “If you will diligently listen to the voice of the Lord your God, and do that which is right in his eyes, and give ear to his commandments and keep all his statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you that I put on the Egyptians, for I am the Lord, your healer.” 1
Psalm 107:20 (ESV)
20 He sent out his word and healed them, and delivered them from their destruction.
Psalm 147:3 (ESV)
3 He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.
VERSE 4 - who redeems your life from the pit, who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy,
He saves your life...
Ps 56:13 | For you have delivered my soul from death, yes, my feet from falling, that I may walk before God in the light of life.
He paid the price -- final -- nothing can cancel it - you are debt free!
AMP: who beautifies, dignifies and crowns you...
It doesn’t say you are given love and mercy - it says you are crowned...
That word is atar (H5849) - it means to surround or encircle (literally for attack or protection)
It means to honor, reward, to dignify (with unmerited distinction)
Psalm 5:12 - For you bless the righteous, O Lord; you cover him with favor as a shield.
VERSE 5 - who satisfies you with good so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s - STRONG, OVERCOMING, SOARING
These verses convey a sense of divine providence and peace, so that youthful strength is renewed (lit “renews itself”) like an eagle (Is 40:31; 57:10). -
Psalm 107:9 (ESV)
9 For he satisfies the longing soul, and the hungry soul he fills with good things.
When Gabriel came to Mary and told her of things to come - she went to see Elizabeth and Elizabeth blesses Mary - Luke 1:45
Then Mary sings and in her song she references the statement from Psalm 107:9
But look at this verse compared to the one in Psalms -- Luke 1:53
The tense of FILLS in Psalm 107:9 is qatal (perfect) - That is, it views the action of the verb from an outer perspective, the perspective of seeing or thinking of the action of the verb as a whole and complete, without respect to the time of the action. The perfect conjugation conveys the totality of an action without dividing up its chronological processes. The Hebrew perfect, then, is not a tense, a grammatical term that speaks of the time of the verb’s action (past, present, future, etc.). Perfective aspect refers to a kind of action, not the time of the action. An action in Hebrew may be viewed or conceived as entire even if that action has not yet taken place1

The tense of the word FILLED is indicative — The mood in which the action of the verb or the state of being it describes is presented by the writer as real. It is the mood of assertion, where the writer portrays something as actual (as opposed to possible or contingent on intention).

1 Peter 2:9 - But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a dedicated nation, [God’s] own purchased, special people, that you may proclaim the praises… set forth the wonderful deeds and display the virtues and perfections of Him Who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.
