We have seen in verse 1 that the Lord Provides for His sheep.
In verse 2 that he cares for his sheep.
In verse 3 what do we see?
1 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: He leadeth me beside the still waters.
3 He restoreth my soul: He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
We see that he leads his sheep.
What we must notice here specifically is WHERE he leads his sheep.
In Pathes of Righteousness - before we unpack this, lets fist make sure we understand HOW he leads his sheep in the paths of righteousness.
How does God lead his people?
14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.
16 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.
21 And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, When ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left.
The Holy Spirit leads us by impressing on your spirit the will of God.
This impressing is also called the new nature - We no longer seek to have our will done, but we seek to do the will of God.
So the Holy Spirit, is leading us to live our live, not on our paths, but on God’s paths - knows as the Paths of righteousness.
The Paths of righteousness are simply the will of God for all of us as layout clearly in His Holy Word.
So walking in them turns out to simply be a matter of Christian duty.
What is christian duty? Well what is duty?
Well duty is defined as “Ones moral or legal obligation”. So christian duty is our moral and legal obligation to God.
And what is that moral and legal obligation that all believers have to God?
To be led by the holy Spirit and walk obediently in the paths of Righteousness.

This is just a thin scraping, a tiny sampeling of the legal and moral obligations all christians have.
A life of obedience and Duty that God leads us to and in which we strive to live.
What if we fail?
3 He restoreth my soul: He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
God knows the heart, and with repentance he is able to restore us when we fail.
Matthew Henry:
The great christians is not the one who strays the least, but rather the one who knows how prone he is to stay, stay close to the shepherd.
