You Who?

“My little children”

The Galatian Christians that Paul had labored for in bringing them to the new birth (Acts 13:13-14:23).

Antioch of Pisidia
Iconium
Lystra
Derbe

Paul had endured a great deal for them to “have begotten [them] through the gospel” (1 Cor. 4:15; Acts 13:44-45, 49-50; 14:2, 4-5, 19-20).

Despite the persecution of the Jews, Paul and Barnabas planted and nurtured congregations in these cities (Acts 14:21-23).

The “you,” in our title phrase is those disciples.

By principled extension - it also applies to all Christians throughout the Church Age (cf. 1 Cor. 4:15; James 1:18).

The apostles “[labored] in birth for all of us! (Eph. 2:20).

But Paul says here (Gal. 4:19), that he was laboring for them again.

The same Judaizing teachers that plagued Paul the first time was still plaguing the Galatian churches and they were causing people to fall away.

Paul was having to remind them of the things they should have already been assured of (Galatians context).

It is vitally important that we maintain the foundation! (cf. 2 Pet. 1:12-15).

Do What?

Have Christ formed in you (Gal. 4:19).

literally, until a mind and life in complete harmony with the mind and life of Christ shall have been formed in you

Philippians 2:5 NKJV
5 Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus,
Romans 8:10 NKJV
10 And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.
Romans 8:29 NKJV
29 For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren.
Romans 12:1–2 NKJV
1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. 2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

Why?

Galatians 4:20 NKJV
20 I would like to be present with you now and to change my tone; for I have doubts about you.
They were turning again (Gal. 4:9; 5:4; 1:6-9; et al).
We, too, should heed the warning of turning again!
