“Listen”

I want to tell you a story about a time I was a total and complete idiot...
*Story about ?*
This month will be walking through a series called, “Listen”. The whole purpose of this series is too reinforce or redirect our attention to God as our source of wisdom. Learning how to listen to what God is saying and taking the steps necessary in response to what He says.
-SOAP a Proverb a day
-Asking two questions every day:
1)What are you saying God?
2)How do you want me to respond?

Pray

Stand for the reading of God’s word
Proverbs 1:20–33 NIV
20 Out in the open wisdom calls aloud, she raises her voice in the public square; 21 on top of the wall she cries out, at the city gate she makes her speech: 22 “How long will you who are simple love your simple ways? How long will mockers delight in mockery and fools hate knowledge? 23 Repent at my rebuke! Then I will pour out my thoughts to you, I will make known to you my teachings. 24 But since you refuse to listen when I call and no one pays attention when I stretch out my hand, 25 since you disregard all my advice and do not accept my rebuke, 26 I in turn will laugh when disaster strikes you; I will mock when calamity overtakes you— 27 when calamity overtakes you like a storm, when disaster sweeps over you like a whirlwind, when distress and trouble overwhelm you. 28 “Then they will call to me but I will not answer; they will look for me but will not find me, 29 since they hated knowledge and did not choose to fear the Lord. 30 Since they would not accept my advice and spurned my rebuke, 31 they will eat the fruit of their ways and be filled with the fruit of their schemes. 32 For the waywardness of the simple will kill them, and the complacency of fools will destroy them; 33 but whoever listens to me will live in safety and be at ease, without fear of harm.”

Wisdom Comes from God Alone

Proverbs 1:7 NIV
7 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.
-Where are you getting your wisdom from?
-There is a saying I love in regard to relationships that I feel works great for wisdom, “If you’re not moving forward, you’re moving backward.”
-Wisdom is not something that simply comes to you, it has to be sought out.
-You’re either seeking out wisdom from this earth and from temporary sources, or you’re receiving wisdom from the eternal source of God’s word.
-An easy way to see where you’re receiving your wisdom is the screen time report on your pone.
-What apps are you spending the most time on? And how much time do you spend on apps?
-Learning and choosing to receive your wisdom from God has to be a conscious choice.
-No one accidentally becomes healthy and fit all of a sudden.
-Wisdom doesn’t come easy, it challenges and produces an opportunity for change.

Listen & Respond

James 1:22–25 NIV
22 Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. 23 Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror 24 and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. 25 But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do.
-Ignoring wisdom is just as foolish as avoiding wisdom
-Wisdom is only beneficial when you use it to change your life.
-What I am afraid of in life is getting to a point where I see a call for growth, a call for change, a call for my health, a call for justice, peace, love, hope, and I just sit back apathetic because it involves too much work.
Proverbs 1:32–33 NIV
32 For the waywardness of the simple will kill them, and the complacency of fools will destroy them; 33 but whoever listens to me will live in safety and be at ease, without fear of harm.”
-A life of listening and responding to God will leave you unsettled.
-God never intends to leave us where He finds us.
