Matthew 24:45-51 (Psalm 147:1-12)
Psalm 147:1-12
1 How pleasant or ‘for he is delightful. Praise is a lovely thing’.
2 explains how delightful he is: in his concern for the stability and circumstances of his people as a whole and for the inner and outer (3) needs of individuals.
10–11 Strength is, typically, prowess, military strength. Horse and legs may hint at cavalry and infantry, the things nations applaud as giving strength and status.
But the biggest of the ‘big battalions’ to have on our side is the Lord himself and (11) he looks for the spiritual qualities of reverence and hope—confident, trustful waiting for his changeless love to act.
Matthew 24:45-51
Yesterdays passage ended with the warning of always being ready, keeping watch for the coming of the Son of man, becasue he will come at a time you do not expect him, be ready Jesus says.
But you can’t be on the look out all the time can you, stood at the door waiting and doing nothing. So what does being ready mean?
Well the master doesn’t expect to find the servant waiting at the door when he returns, but getting on with the Job he was left to do.
Niether the faithful servent or the wicked servent know when the master will return, its the way the master finds them behaving that divides the two, not some insider knowledge.
The faithful servent is getting on with the job in hand, the wicked servent is taking advantge of the time they have without the master being present.
The faithful servent is given more responsibility the wicked servent is cut to pieces and given a place with the hypocrites, I assume they had made out they were something they wern’t at soempoint to be given the responsibility in the first place.
They have taken advantage of they position, it doesn’t end well, where they end up there will be wheeping and gnashing of teeth.
Christians have a responsibility to get on with the work Jesus will leave them with, ultimatley building his Kingdom, making disciples and baptising, or doing work which assits in this goal.
We are not to try and predict the time Jesus will come again, we are also not to just sit back getting excited about that time doing nothing, we are to get on, doing the work of the Father… what a privledge to be called to this and to be included in Gods mission… we should get busy...
