Cast yea on the Right Side

6And he said unto them, Cast the net on the right side of the boat, and ye shall find. They cast therefore, and now they were not able to draw it for the multitude of fishes

The command to cast the net on the right side of the ship may be interpreted in two ways. Either Jesus was testing their faith by recommending a procedure the Galilean fishermen never used, or he could

discern the presence of a school of fish from the more advantageous viewpoint of the shore” (Tenney, EBC, p. 199).

But there are more than two interpretations of this event, since I have already offered a third. Carson also suggests that Jesus may have just been reciting a generally known sign of good luck in Greek culture by emphasizing the right side.
