English Standard Version Chapter 2
9 But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light
In 2 Peter 2:9 those who believe are called “a royal priesthood, a holy nation” my favorite is when it says “a people for his own possession”. It is a joy to know that the creator of the world has called me his own. If we were to meditate on this idea alone it should cause an emotion of gratefulness. Remember, Jesus left his holy kingdom and all its glory to live among a people that rejects him all day long.
Having great love toward us he stretched out his hands to purchase (redeem) people for himself. Now we are a people of his own possession. He is our God, our king, our savior, our strength, our righteousness, our purpose. I know that this does not even scratch the surface of his greatness.
Well, whats the point of all this? Why write this post? We love to hear the piece about being a “royal priesthood, holy nation and a people of his own possession”. But the part we miss follows right after. “that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light”.
Are we proclaiming the excellencies? That fact that he drew me out from a dying and lost world is what puts hope in my heart for the future. I belong to the King of Kings! I am a citizen of Heaven! I have received Mercy!. These are not promises to fulfill, these are promises already fulfilled.
Proclaim his excellencies today, tomorrow and the day after that until the final day when we will see His glory for eternity. Be the light the world does not understand.
Why?
1 JN 2:17 And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever.
Thats what we live for and look forward to. Is that your heart this week? May it be true! or in biblical terms AMEN!
