The Best Part

When Martha complained to Messiah that her sister Mary wasn’t helping in the preparations and just sitting at his feet, the Lord gives an interesting answer. He tells her that only one thing is necessary and Mary has chosen the better part. What was necessary? Sitting at His feet was the better part. When we think of what’s needed in our lives, we think of food, shelter, clothing, making ends meet, having a job, marriage, a house, and maybe even ministry. But what the Lord is saying is that the only thing that is really needed is that you be in His presence. And it’s not only the most necessary thing, it’s the best thing - better than pleasure, better than riches, better than life. If that’s the case, and He says it is, how much more importance must we start placing on being with the Lord. Make a commitment to set a portion of each day doing nothing but being in His presence. Schedule the time. Block it out. Let nothing squeeze it out of your schedule. It’s what you need more than anything else… and it’s the best part.
