Intro
End our series on God with one of the most important things
Also one of the most complicated
The Christian God is triune
God is a trinity, 1 God in 3 distinct persons
Not three gods, one God that has 3 forms
Father, Son Holy Spirit
To help us understand, we are going to watch a video
Body
What is the Trinity?
God’s existence as three equal and distinct beings who create the one God of the Bible
Father, Son, Holy Spirit
Father- “Our Father” “Heavenly Father”
Son- Jesus, God in human flesh, existed from the beginning
Holy Spirit- The thing that a believer receives when they follow Jesus, our connection to God
Guides, convicts, prays on behalf of you, actively working
It is a consistent teaching throughout the Bible
All three parts of the Trinity are given the status and glory of God
This isn’t just people’s thoughts on who God is, its what the Bible teaches us about God
Why does it matter?
Different religions teach different things about who God is
Some religions don’t think Jesus is God, some religious think that there are multiple gods, etc.
Its important to know what God we are talking about and giving worship to
The God of the Christian bible is not the same god that other religions talk about
Not Allah, not the mormon god, not the “one supreme being”
The Christian God is the only one describe in terms of a Trinity
If a person doesn’t believe in the Trinity, they aren’t talking about the same God as the Bible
The nature of the Trinity reveals something about us
We are created for community, we are created to love, we are created to exist together and for the good of one another
Conclusion
The Trinity is one of the most complicated things to understand because it is a concept that exists above our understanding
But it is necessary to know because it is the thing that separates the Christian God from other ideas of God
