Genesis 6:1-7 The sons of God and the Daughters of Men.

Fallen Angels?

The sons of God are debated as to there true identity. One school of thought is that they were fallen angels. This thought process says that because they are sons of God means that they were created by him and not born of humans. One problem, with this thinking is that Matthew 22:30 says that angels are not given in marriage.

1. The text deals with the punishment against humanity and shows no culpability upon angels.

2. Hebrews 1:7,14 states that angels are spiritual beings not corporeal.

Human Judges or Rulers?

Elohim has broader usage than the common meanings God or divine. Psalms 82:1, 6-7 show that the Word Elohim can be used for human judges.

Genesis 1–11:26 (1) Sons of God and Daughters of Men (6:1–4)

Although this interpretation avoids the obvious problems created by the angel view, it fails to square with the contextual requirements since the larger passage does not speak of kingship. Though individual kings were referred to as “son of God,” no evidence can be marshaled for groups of kings in the ancient Near East bearing the name “sons of the gods.

Godly Men?

This view says that the sons of God where the descendants of Godly men or of Seth.

Again with Elohim referencing men. In chapter 5 we see the lineage of Seth and it can be shown that the wickedness came with the intermingling of Seth’s descendants with those of Cain. However, this is not exclusive to Cainite women but also daughters that knew not God.

V.6 Does God repent?

We find that god doesn’t repent from the mindset of man but rather his repentance appears as a change of heart from the human perspective.

MALACHI 3:6 For I am the LORD, I change not; Therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed.

God did not change his mind but rather moved in his pre planned method. The shift in direction appears to man as a repentance or change of mind.
If we say that God truly repented the we must first admit that God was unable to see the outcome of His creation.

James 1:17 17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.
