Paul continues in His prayer for the Colossians...
Helping the kids to do laundry. I will help them. They like my closeness and guidance. But I will not do it for them. If they leave the work for me to do, I stop doing it.
We need to choose to walk in His strength
pray for it regarding the occassion, before you do. Relationships, mission, other tasks. Pray pause follow. Therefore,
Colossians 1:11–12 ESV11 being strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might, for all endurance and patience with joy; 12 giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in light.
First, Paul prays for them, that they would be strengthened will all power. With what power? according to His might which is blinding in glory. As with knowledge, God provides power to us from Himself. He is the source of it. His power is wrapped up in Himself. When we receive His strength, we receive Him.Also like knowledge, Paul wants them to have power for a reason, so that they will have strength for...endurance and patience (qualified as joyful)- remember their current trial, encroaching heresy. It is wearisome to live in the midst of worldly truth which opposes the truth of God. We have to withstand it, lest we fall for is and become captive to is. endurance means not to give uppatience means to wait for somethingjoy is an attitude based in the knowledge of something. What could Paul possibly be talking about that would allow these stressed out Christians to have endurance, patience, and joy? God’s knowledge and strength. We also need God’s strength in order to be faithful in giving thanks to the FatherSometimes it is easy to go without giving thanks. This is the problem of the people who are lost.
Romans 1:21 ESV21 For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened.
The flesh doesn’t like to give thanks because it requires humility.Reason to give thanks #1- God who qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints of light- All that the Father has He gives the Son, He gives the sons. Romans 8:17
Romans 8:17 ESV17 and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him.
of eternal life
Titus 3:7 ESV7 so that being justified by his grace we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.
of God Himself
Lamentations 3:24 ESV24 “The Lord is my portion,” says my soul, “therefore I will hope in him.”
Romans 5:2 ESV2 Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God.
Everything in the universeReason to give thanks #2- God delivered us from domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son. 1:14 is a qualifier of the Son which speaks to the means by which we are transferred. This is the One in whom...
Colossians 1:14 ESV14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.
The Son was a specific matter of contention with the heretics in Colossae.
